Introduction: Hearing is one of the premier human senses. Being deprived from hearing is not only being unable to hear the sounds, but it is also the disability to gain a lot of helpful experiences. Cochlear implantation is introduced worldwide in order to treat the severe to profound hearing loss. Therefore, the present study aims to determine the effect of age of cochlear implantation on impr...

It has been suggested that visual language is maladaptive for hearing restoration with a cochlear implant (CI) due to cross-modal recruitment of auditory brain regions. Rehabilitative guidelines therefore discourage the use of visual language. However, neuroscientific understanding of cross-modal plasticity following cochlear implantation has been restricted due to incompatibility between estab...

Objectives: Auditory Brain Stem Response (ABR) is a result of eight nerve and brain stem nuclei stimulation. Several factors may affect the latencies, interpeak latencies and amplitudes in ABR especially sex and age. In this study, age and sex influence on ABR were studied. Methods: This study was performed on 120 cases (60 males and 60 females) at Akhavan rehabilitation center of university...

Nineteen infants with posthaemorrhagic ventricular dilatation had auditory brain stem responses measured during the period of maximal ventricular dilatation. These showed various patterns ranging from normal, through various abnormalities, to complete absence of responses. When serial auditory brain stem responses were studied in parallel with the evolution of posthaemorrhagic ventricular dilat...

Introduction: Hearing is one of the dominant senses of humans. In fact, human beings learn the language which is spoken in their environment and, then, develop the capability to speak. Cochlear implantation is introduced worldwide as a method for the treatment of the severe-to-profound sensory-neural hearing loss. Therefore, the present study aims to investigate the effect of cochlear implantat...

conclusions this study revealed that the type of hearing loss, presence in the rehabilitation program, and the age of cochlear implantation can be major prognostic factors of the response to the treatment, then the country’s health policy makers and health planners must executively take into account the infants’ hearing screening program during the first 6 month of age. results the mean and the...
