Cyclic AMP content in embryonic chick pelvic cartilage increases significantly as the embryo ages from 8 to 10 d. This in ovo elevation in cyclic AMP content precedes maximal cartilage alkaline phosphatase activity by some 24 h. We studied whether this temporal relationship may be causally related, using an in vitro organ culture. Incubation of pelvic cartilage from 9- and 10-d embryos in mediu...

background recently, the clinical use of low power lasers has increased, and it is said that wound healing is accelerated by their irradiation. the aim of this study was evaluation of the effect of platelet-rich plasma on proliferation and differentiation of human dental pulp stem cells with or without ga-al-as laser. methods: in this experimental study, human lower third molar dental pulp cell...

conclusions the elevation of hmw-alp activity in cu treated animal suggests the occurrence of biliary disease. this may be used as a biomarker for the diagnosis of copper toxicity. results obtained data showed that with increasing administration of copper, the alp activity was elevated significantly. in comparison with the control group the elevations were between 20%-56% using gel filtration c...

The increased alkaline phosphatase (EC 3.1.3.1) activity of reconstituted lyophilized control sera has recently been the focus of considerable interest because of its possible implications for quality-control procedures. We confirm that these reconstituted materials show a temperature-dependent increase in alkaline phosphatase activity, but could show no alteration in activity of fresh sera. Th...

Using immunochemical techniques, alkaline phosphatase isoenzymes were determined in tissue samples of breast carcinomas and carcinomas of the gastrointestinal tract. In breast carcinomas only 19% of the patients expressed significant placental alkaline phosphatase activity, compared with 78% in gastrointestinal tumours. The intestinal isoenzyme was found in 50% of the breast carcinomas and in n...

Plasma alkaline phosphatase isoenzyme activities were determined in patients with breast cancer to diagnose and monitor bone and liver metastases. Bone alkaline phosphatase activity was increased in 21 of 50 patients (42%) with radiologically confirmed bone metastases, while total alkaline phosphatase activity was increased in only 10 of 50 (20%); liver alkaline phosphatase activity was raised ...

Bile duct ligation causes a five- to sevenfold increase in the activity of rat liver alkaline phosphatase within 12 hours after ligation and a similar rise in the activity of alkaline phosphatase in serum. The increased serum activity is due entirely to the appearance of a new isoenzyme that has the properties of rat liver alkaline phosphatase. The increase in both serum and liver alkaline phos...

To determine whether decreased alkaline phosphatase activity in the granules from neutrophils of patients with chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) was due to an absence of enzyme or the production of defective enzyme, we compared the immunologic properties of granule alkaline phosphatase derived from patients with CML with that of normal subjects and patients with polycythemia vera (PRV). Antise...

An automated method is described for determining alkaline phosphatase activity in serum, with use of sodium thymolphthalein monophosphate as the substrate. The system makes use of standard AutoAnalyzer components, has a simple flow diagram, and does not involve dialysis. The method has good precision, and the results correlate well with those from the manual method of which it is an adaptation.
