In this paper possibilities of a stabilization of large amplitude fluctuations in an intracavity-doubled solid-state laser are studied. The modification of the cross-saturation coefficient by the effect of spatial hole-burning is taken into account. The stabilization of the laser radiation by an increase of the number of modes, as proposed in [James et al., 1990b, Magni et al., 1993], is analyz...
We apply the modal coherence theory to evaluate the spatial mode structure of a 2×2 phase-coupled array of vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSELs). The eigenmode structure is extracted for different pump currents by measuring the degree of spatial coherence of all VCSEL pairs in the array. The results reveal the impact of optical disorder and spatial hole burning on the modal discrimin...
We present a theory for a new type of optical spatial soliton that is based on the angle hole burning mechanism of photoisomerization in some polymers. We predict that the photoisomerization nonlinearity can support steady-state dark and bright spatial solitons in the polymer. We also discuss the dependence of the FWHM of the spatial soliton on wavelengths of the background beams and on the rat...
We report on the spectroscopic and hole burning properties of free-base naphtophthalocyanine with and without 1chloranthracene in polymer host. These materials exhibit a strong 0–0 absorption band in the region 800 nm matching the wavelength range of most semiconductor and Ti:Sapphire lasers. The materials studied feature two persistent hole burning photochemical mechanisms, i.e. one-photon pro...
Persistent spectral hole burning is studied for several free-based and metallo-naphthalocyanine derivatives in polymer hosts. These materials exhibit a strong 0}0 absorption band in the region 800 nm matching the wavelength range of most semiconductor diode lasers and Ti : Sapphire lasers. Metallo-naphthalocyanines demonstrate a nonphotochemical hole-burning mechanism that is likely related to ...
We report measurements of the transient multimode dynamics of vertical cavity surface emitting lasers excited by short ~100–200 ps rise times, 1 ns duration! electrical pulses. Fast changes on the spatial distribution of the output power and strong mode competition are observed. Numerical simulations show that the observed dynamics are due to the partial overlap of the different transverse mode...
We study optical-feedback effects using an integrated laser-modulator/amplifier. Our experiment and theory are agree well and provide interesting results of feedback effects on optical spectrum, spatial-hole burning, the photon density profile, and the microwave modulation.
