Group brainstorming is a very popular technique for the creation of ideas, although the state of the art in psychological research backs from this kind of brainstorming. Electronic brainstorming overcomes some of the drawbacks and regains some value. Unfortunately, the electronic brainstorming still is in infantile state and lacks some modern techniques which may make the whole approach more ef...
Electronic brainstorming (EBS) has been a focus of academic research since the 1980s. The results suggest that in most--but not all--cases, groups using EBS produce more ideas than groups using verbal brainstorming. In contrast, the results comparing groups using EBS to groups using nominal group brainstorming have been mixed: sometimes EBS groups produce more ideas, while in other cases, nomin...
Contingency models proposed for group support systems suggest that task, technology, group and individual characteristics may explain observed effects. Task, technology and group characteristics have been studied to some extent. Characteristics of individual participants have received less attention. In this article, the results of an experimental study on the equality of reticence in groups on...

In a recent commentary, Dennis and Valacich (1999) raise several issues concerning the effectiveness of electronic brainstorming (EBS) and conclude that, when brainstorming groups contain more than eight individuals, EBS technology is more effective than nominal brainstorming. The present paper offers several theoretical and empirical reasons to justify our disagreement with this conclusion.
Innovation is a key instrument to start a transformational process based on collaboration. It is fundamental for organisations and institutions to have well defined strategies. In this context, brainstorming sessions — and e-brainstorming tools — are effective techniques to put together and associate draft ideas. Yet, in many cases, those ideas and associations do not leave enough digital footp...
1 This research investigates the role of brainstorming sessions in promoting effective user participation in ERP implementation. An exploratory case study was conducted, with the data analysis based on the grounded theory approach and the findings organized in a theoretical model. Results show that brainstorming sessions were instrumental for effective user participation, resulting in high leve...
