INTRODUCTION Aedes aegypti eggs can be collected from the water surface. METHODS Aedes aegypti oviposition from 97 field ovitraps was studied. RESULTS Of the 16,016 eggs collected, 11,439 were obtained from paddles in ovitraps and 4,577 from water. Further, 89 (91.8%) traps contained eggs on water and 22 (22.7%) traps contained eggs only on water. CONCLUSIONS In field traps, Aedes aegypti...

Abstract The electrical properties of polymer‐based light‐emitting diodes (PLEDs) have been extensively studied, resulting in quantitative device models. However, for a complete description the optoelectronic PLED, obtained recombination profiles need to be integrated with an optical model describing local outcoupling efficiency generated light. In this work, combined and calculations are prese...

The volatile and polar solvent 1,4-dioxane has recently been reported as a contaminant of ground and surface waters, establishing the need to determine this substance in drinking water. This investigation established that 1,4-dioxane can be determined in water by various techniques including direct aqueous injection (DAI) gas chromatography (GC) and purge and trap GC-mass spectrometry (MS). Pur...

• Here, enzymatic activity of five hydrolases was measured fluorometrically in the fluid collected from traps of four aquatic Utricularia species and in the water in which the plants were cultured. • In empty traps, the highest activity was always exhibited by phosphatases (6.1– 29.8 μmol l − 1 h − 1 ) and β -glucosidases (1.35–2.95 μmol l − 1 h − 1 ), while the activities of α -glucosidases, β...

We measured abundance and surface area of picoand nano-sized organic particles that are stained by 4’6-diamidino-2-phenylindole (Dapi), namely Dapi yellow particles. This study was done monthly from April 1999 to March 2000 from surface down to 2000 m at the French-JGOFS time-series station Dyfamed in the NW Mediterranean. Dapi yellow particles were always observed throughout the water column a...

Water soluble fraction (WSF) of crude oil can pollute water and cause histopathological alterations in fishes. Therefore, sea water pollution with crude oil could detrimentally impact the fish health. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of different concentrations of WSF on gills of yellow fin sea bream. The fish were exposed to 0% (control), 2%, 4%, 8% and 16% of WSF for a ...

The water spider Argyroneta aquatica lives under water, diving to various depths from time to time. At rest, it breathes air trapped within its diving bell with a hydrophilic surface. Outside their diving bell water spiders trap air on their abdomen under a layer of hydrophobic hair. Is the structure of the layer of hair trapping a volume of air on the abdomen of the water spider Argyroneta aqu...

An enzyme-based electrochemical biosensor was investigated for the analysis of Sunset Yellow synthetic food dye. A glassy carbon electrode was coated with a poly(acrylamide-co-ethyl methacrylate) membrane to immobilize laccase using a single-step photopolymerization procedure. Poly(acrylamide-co-ethyl methacrylate) membrane was demonstrated to have acceptable water absorption and suitable for b...
