Endophytes are important resources of bioactive compounds and due to their potential in theproduction of secondary metabolites, they are regarded as a potential reservoir ofbiotechnological applications. In this study, the bioactivity of bacteria and yeasts endophytesresiding in Thymus sp. was evaluated. During April to October 2011, symptomless and healthytissues of Thymus sp. were collected. ...

Bacterial blight (Xanthomonas arboricola pv.juglandis) is one of the main diseases of walnut that reduce the yield in the central, western and northern regions of Iran. This disease was first reported form, Qazvin and Mazandaran, then widely reported from northern, central and western provinces. To identify the cause of the disease in different provinces, infected leaves collected from Alborze,...

The protein Clp from Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. citri regulates pathogenesis and is a member of the CRP (cyclic AMP receptor protein) superfamily. We show that unlike the DNA-binding activity of other members of this family, the DNA-binding activity of Clp is allosterically inhibited by its effector and that cyclic di-GMP serves as that effector at physiological concentrations.

The complete genome sequences of three Xanthomonas citri strains isolated from lime trees in Texas were found to belong to the Aw group. All carried nearly identical large plasmids with similarity to those of a citrus canker strain from India and to xanthomonads from Africa and Colombia. All three strains harbored unusual pthA homologs.

After completing a three-year (1995-97) evaluation of bell pepper cultivars under induced bacterial spot (Xanthomonas campestris pv. vesicatoria or Xcv) and bacterial spot-free environments, we began a new series of trials in 2000 to compare new cultivars with previously recommended cultivars that were either highly resistant (‘Boynton Bell’) and/or that had very attractive fruits (‘X3R Wizard’...

Xanthomonas citri subsp. citri (Xcc) A strain causes citrus bacterial canker, a serious leaf, fruit and stem spotting disease of several Citrus species. X. alfalfae subsp. citrumelonis (Xac) is the cause of citrus bacterial spot, a minor disease of citrus nursery plants and X. campestris pv. campestris (Xc) is a systemic pathogen that causes black rot of cabbage. Xanthomonas spp. form biofilms ...

Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae causes bacterial blight, a serious disease of rice. Our analysis revealed that the X. oryzae pv. oryzae genome encodes genes responsible for iron uptake through FeoB (homolog of the major bacterial ferrous iron transporter) and a siderophore. A mutation in the X. oryzae pv. oryzae feoB gene causes severe virulence deficiency, growth deficiency in iron-limiting medi...

RoxA is an extracellular c-type diheme cytochrome secreted by Xanthomonas sp. strain 35Y during growth on rubber. RoxA cleaves poly(cis-1,4-isoprene) to 12-oxo-4,8-dimethyltrideca-4,8-diene-1-al (ODTD). Analysis of the RoxA structure revealed that Phe317 is located in close proximity (≈5 Å) to the N-terminal heme that presumably represents the active site. To find evidence of whether Phe317 is...

Bacterial blight of rice is an important serious bacterial diseases of rice in many rice-growing regions, caused by Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae (Xoo). The thiG gene from Xoo strain ZJ173, which is involved with thiazole moiety production in the thiamine biosynthesis pathway, is highly conserved among the members of Xanthomonas. The thiG deletion mutant displayed impaired virulence and growth ...
