BACKGROUND Infections by Staphylococcus spp. are often associated with wounds, especially in hospitalized patients. Wounds may be the source of bacteria causing cross-contamination, and are a risk factor for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infection. The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of wound colonization by Staphylococcus spp., especially S. aureus and ...

Background: Puerperal infection is caused by the entry of bacteria through uterine or perineal wounds. These can trigger proinflammatory cytokines. Excessive response results in tissue damage, septic shock to death. Among non-pharmacological methods are extracts red betel leaves which have phytochemical screening flavonoids and tannins as antibacterial antiseptic.Purposes: Knowing potential sim...

In troduct ion The fruit skin (cuticle and epidermis) provides barrier protection against infection by pathogens. Most fungi are unable to penetrate healthy fruit skin and must enter through wounds. Fruit resistance to infection resulting from the biochemical action of tissues is not the result of a single compound or a single mechanism. Multiple systems with complex interactions may be involve...

Few reports in the literature have documented the isolation of Ureaplasma species from sternal wounds. A case of sternal wound infection likely due to Ureaplasma parvum is described. When routine bacterial cultures from a sternal wound infection fail to yield a pathogen, diagnostic testing for mycoplasmas and ureaplasmas should be considered.

The management and treatment of infection is a complex and important area in tissue viability nursing. Andrew Kingsley discusses the value of microbiology to clinical practice and the importance of adopting a proactive approach to the management of infected wounds using an infection continuum and algorithm to help promote effective care.
