Burn patients are particularly exposed to deep-seated nosocomial infections caused by Candida species. Superficial carriage of C. albicans is a potential source of infection and dissemination, and typing methods could be useful to trace the different isolates. We report the use of random amplified polymorphic DNA to type isolates of C. albicans in the Hôpital Cochin burn unit. This molecular ty...
Two outbreaks of epizootic listerial encephalitis, one in sheep and one in goats, were investigated through pathology, microbiology, and DNA amplification-based techniques. Efforts were made to survey the diversity of Listeria monocytogenes strains in the silage consumed by affected animals and to verify the causal relationship between silage and disease outbreak. In both outbreaks, L. monocyto...
We tested the constancy of l inkage relat ionships of randomly amplif ied polymorphic DNA (RAPD) marker loci used to construct a population-based consensus map in material from an Italian stand of Picea abies (L.) Karst. in 29 individuals from three Norwegian populations. Thirteen marker loci linked in the Italian stand did show a consistent locus ordering in the Norwegian population. The remai...
BACKGROUND The role of dispersion of refractoriness and reentry for the genesis of polymorphic ventricular tachycardia (VT) has recently become emphasized. We investigated the mechanisms of polymorphic arrhythmias in a 2D preparation confining an area of prolonged refractoriness. METHODS AND RESULTS In 16 Langendorff-perfused rabbit hearts, a sheet of left ventricular epicardium was obtained ...
Construction of a genetic linkage map is necessary to apply marker-assisted selection tools in a crop improvement program. Except for the recent studies from two laboratories, most of the previous studies have shown little or no DNA polymorphism in cultivated groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.). In the present study, 70 selected genotypes, representing variability for several morphological, physiol...
The objective of the research is to study the role of polymorphic gene variants of Tumor Necrosis Factor‐α (TNFA), Bcl‐2‐ associated X protein (BAX), p53 Binding Protein (MDM2), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) in the development of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). Methods: The comparative analysis of allele and...
The genetic basis of the white spotting pattern in Dutch boxer dogs is not known. We studied whether the segregation of white spotting in boxers follows a Mendelian inheritance pattern. Blood samples were collected, along with digital photographs in standard directions of (grand)parents (n=16) and offspring (n=52) from eight litters of Dutch boxers. In order to select heterozygous parents, we s...
The intrinsic unsharpness of a quantum observable is studied by introducing the notion of resolution width. This quantification of accuracy is shown to be closely connected with the possibility of making approximately repeatable measurements. As a case study, the intrinsic unsharpness and approximate repeatability of position and momentum measurements are examined in detail.
Structural studies of calcium citrate obtained by IR irradiation carbonate and citric acid in various ratios spectroscopic X-ray structural analysis has been carried out. It is shown that the samples there are polymorphic states form aragonite, vaterite, calcite, as well ikaite complex compounds with different coordination numbers observed.
Structural composites with smart functionalities of self-healing and self-sensing are particular interest in the fields aerospace, automotive, renewable energy. However, most current methodologies either require a relatively complex design healing network, or sacrifice initial mechanical thermal performance carbon fibre composite system after introducing agents. Herein, an extremely simple meth...
