A case of acquired hepatocerebral degeneration secondary to biliary cirrhosis is described. It differs from the conventional type because of the clinical predominance of cerebellar symptomatology and because the principal neuropathological abnormalities were restricted to the pallidum and to the cerebellum.

It is unknown whether dilated perivascular spaces can affect the adjacent neuronal fibers. We describe conventional MR and diffusion tensor imaging findings of a case with multiple, prominent dilated perivascular spaces in the left cerebral hemisphere. Diffusion tensor imaging showed no alterations in the fractional anisotropy and apparent diffusion coefficient values for the corona radiata, po...

A 62 year old male hypertensive patient with known diabetes mellitus and diVuse arteriopathy was admitted for cardiac failure. On hospital day 2, septic shock due to an unidentified micro-organism, encephalopathy, and flaccid paraplegia developed. On day 4, dry gangrene of all toes and progressive coma appeared. He died on hospital day 22 of multiorgan failure. Nerve conduction studies carried ...

Much work, using both histochemical and standard biochemical techniques, has been carried out on the phosphatases of peripheral nerve. It is known that this tissue contains both alkaline (Landow, Kabat, and Newman, 1942) and acid phosphatases (Wolf, Kabat, and Newman, 1943), and the changes in the levels of these enzymes in nerves undergoing Wallerian degeneration following transection have bee...

Conduction in the lateral popliteal nerve of the baboon was studied during the course of Wallerian degeneration. Six nerves were examined. In each case the muscle response to nerve stimulation and the ascending nerve action potential were recorded daily until the nerve became inexcitable. The muscle response to nerve stimulation disappeared after four to five days, but ascending nerve action po...
