Liver transplantation with preservation of the recipient vena cava (piggyback technique) has been performed as an alternative to the conventional method. Outflow disturbance or obstruction of the vena cava in the early period after liver transplantation is associated with high morbidity and mortality. We used side-to-side cavo-caval anastomosis (modified piggyback technique) in a deceased-donor...
INTRODUCTION Persistent left superior vena cava is a rare case with an appearance of 0.3% to 0.5% of individuals in general population. Indication for jugular venous intervention could be different, such as implantable venous catheters for oncological therapy. The present report describes a case of a patient with a persistent left superior vena cava detected after central venous catheter (CVC) ...
AIM We describe the case of a 38 year old man, with a story of alcohol abuse, who developed a very painful nodular subcutaneous fat necrosis, fever and polyarthritis, denying any abdominal symptoms due to a pancreatic pseudocyst-inferior vena cava fistula. MATERIAL OF STUDY The authors discuss the unusual and protracted course with intermittent hyperamylasemia and hyperlipasemia related to cl...
BACKGROUND Lack of conduit growth potential and thrombogenicity are the main drawbacks of the extracardiac Fontan operation (ECFO). Optimal size of the conduit according to the patients age and inferior vena cava diameter has not been established. OBJECTIVES We set out to ascertain whether the optimal dimensions of the conduit could be determined before an ECFO. METHODS Actual and expected ...
Psoas abscess is a rare clinical entity. Rarely, it is associated with thrombosis of the inferior vena cava. This report is of a 36-year-old woman with bilateral pyogenic psoas abscesses with spondylodiscitis complicated by thrombosis of the inferior vena cava. The pathogenesis and imaging features of this condition are discussed.
Thirty-seven-year old female with hydrocephalus managed by a ventriculoatrial (VA) shunt presented with upper body edema, dysphagia, and headache. Imaging demonstrated thrombosis of the superior vena cava (SVC). Direct catheter thrombolysis led to resolution of thrombus burden. Superior vena cava thrombosis is a rare consequence of VA shunting and must be managed emergently.
We describe a case of phlegmasia cerulea dolens secondary to venous thrombosis due to compression of inferior vena cava, in a 31-year-old man with a germ cell tumour. He was treated with systemic thrombolytic agents, intravenous heparin and urgent chemotherapy He presented a complete tumoral response and complete revascularization of the vena cava and right femoral vein.
The impact of Lecompte’s maneuver on superior vena cava (SVC) has never been mentioned before. We think that in certain anatomical subsets, Lecompte’s maneuver can result in superior vena cava narrowing. We present a case report of patient with Tetralogy of Fallot with absent pulmonary valve with retro-aortic innominate vein who developed SVC thrombosis after Lecompte’s maneuver.
Most cases of cardiac metastasis from renal cell carcinoma (RCC) involve the vena cava or right atrium. Left ventricular metastases from RCC without involving the vena cava or right atrium are extremely rare. Herein we report a case of RCC with left ventricular metastasis causing left ventricular outflow obstruction (LVOT).
Inferior vena cava anomaly is usually asymptomatic. It is rare and commonly detected while performing abdominal imaging for other clinical situations. The anomalies can mimic normal anatomical structures. Thus, the identification of the anomalies is important to avoid complication during abdominal procedures. We report two cases of inferior vena cava anomalies found during Computed Tomography s...
