The SELEX experiment (E781) is a 3-stage magnetic spectrometer for a high statistics study of hadroproduction of charm baryons out to large xF using 650 GeV Σ,π and p beams. The main features of the spectrometer are: a high precision silicon vertex system; powerful particle identification provided by TRD and RICH; forward Λs decay spectrometer; and 3-stage lead glass photon detector. Preliminar...

We obtain a property which characterizes the Chebyshev orthogonal polynomials of first, second, third, and fourth kind. Indeed, we prove that the four Chebyshev sequences are the unique classical orthogonal polynomial families such that their linear combinations, with fixed length and constant coefficients, can be orthogonal polynomial sequences. 1. Introduction The classical orthogonal polynom...

-The zone of natural Yacutia grasslands is situated between 60-64"N and 130-135"E. Vegetation of the meadow-steppe occupies vast glades dispersed in woodlands. These glades are inhabited by a dozen grasshopper species, three of which (Chorthippus albomarginatus, Aeropus sibiricus, and Omocestus haemorrhoidalis) are of economic importance. Most (up to 98%) of the grasshopper population consists ...

Swarming locusts in East Africa have caused damage over the last two years and led to massive control operations using harmful pesticides. The complexities of phase change between solitary swarming behaviour are still insufficiently understood all their ramifications, from physiology through ecology. Michael Gross reports. Locust swarms devastating entire landscapes affected human societies sin...

•Locusts were monitored before, during, and after experiencing collective motion•In each condition the locusts showed distinct walking kinematics•This indicates that adopt collective-motion-dependent behavioral states•Simulations show these states may be advantageous for swarm integrity The motion of swarms depends on adaptations at individual level. We explored their effects formation maintena...

17 An increasing number of studies show how stimulus complexity affects the responses of 18 looming sensitive neurons across multiple animal taxa. Locusts contain a well described, 19 descending motion sensitive pathway that is preferentially looming sensitive. However, the 20 lobula giant movement detector/descending contralateral movement detector (LGMD/DCMD) 21 pathway responds to more than ...
