BACKGROUND Perivascular epithelioid cell tumors (PEComas) are a rare group of neoplasms composed of epithelioid cells that express both melanocytic and myoid markers. When considering PEComas of the female genital tract, the uterus is the most common location. Involvement of the ovary in the context of a primary uterine PEComa, in the absence of systemic disease associated with tuberous scleros...

We present a case of hypercalcemia in a 79-year-old female likely secondary to uterine leiomyoma. To the best of our knowledge, hypercalcemia due to a benign tumor has only been described in five cases. Of these above five cases, uterine leiomyoma was thought to be the cause of hypercalcemia in three cases.

Nowadays, uterine myomas represent a very common clinical entity. Approximately 20%-40% of the women in the reproductive age have uterine myomas [1,2]. However, in menopause there is a significant decrease in the incidence of uterine myomas [2,3]. Studies of pancreatic cancer in the setting of second primary malignant neoplasms can provide etiologic clues. An international multicenter study was carried out using data from 13 cancer registries with a registration period up to year 2000. Cancer patients were followed up from the initial cancer diagnosis, and the occurrence of second primary malignant neoplasms was compared with expected va...

Induction of the expression of the Mr 67,000 high-affinity laminin receptor gene has been postulated as playing a role in the progression of human tumors to invasive cancers. We tested this hypothesis by examining histopathological sections of a large number of epithelial lesions of the genital tract associated with human papillomaviruses. In situ hybridization was performed with a riboprobe ge...

The role of cellular oncogenes in the development of epithelial tumors of the human female reproductive tract has not previously been extensively studied. DNAs isolated from ten human uterine, 13 ovarian, and four cervical neoplasms and from three cell lines derived from endometrial adenocarcinoma were investigated by dot blot hybridization after polymerase chain reaction amplification of ras g...
