introduction: arteriovenous fistulas (avf) make chronic hemodialysis easy, but the complications are unpredictable. ischemic neuropathy due to arterial insufficiency is one of the most important complications of avf. this study was designed to evaluate ischemic neuropathy using electro diagnostic method in the extremity carrying fistula. methods: in this cross-sectional study, 37 hemodialysis p...
Two cyclists developed mononeuropathy of the deep palmar branch of the ulnar nerve due to ulnar nerve compression adjacent to the ulnar tunnel (of Guyon) by prolonged bicycle riding. A modification of hand grip on the bicycle handlebars resulted in rapid recovery in one patient.
Background: Ulnar nerve neuropathy is one of the most common peripheral nerve dysfunctions. Elbow is the most common area affected by ulnar nerve which is mainly because of fractures or dislocations of this area. Delayed ulnar nerve palsy (Tardy Ulnar Nerve Palsy) in children due to a malpositioning of upper extremity during hospitalization is an uncommon cause of ulnar nerve injury which we ha...
Aim. To evaluate the diagnostic value of ultrasonography and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in patients with ulnar neuropathy at the elbow (UNE). Methods. We prospectively performed electrodiagnostic, ultrasonographic, and MRI studies in UNE patients and healthy controls. Three cross-sectional area (CSA) measurements of the ulnar nerve at multiple levels along the arm and maximum CSA(-max) we...
Complications following carpal tunnel release have been reported to occur in 12-20%’ of cases and are numerous and varied. Neurologic complications that have been reported usually involve the palmar cutaneous or motor branch of the median nerve.’ Ulnar nerve injury during carpal tunnel release has been reported rarely. The only cases reported include cases of injury to the main ulnar palmar cut...
Introduction. The hypothenar hammer syndrome is a rare traumatic vascular disease of the hand. Method and Materials. We report the case of a 43-years-old man with a painful tumefaction of the left hypothenar region. The ulnar artery appeared thrombosed clinically and radiologically. The patient underwent surgery to resolve the ulnar nerve compression and revascularise the artery. Results. The s...
Hirayama disease (HD) was first reported by Hirayama et al. in 1959. The disease is considered as a type of benign focal motor neuron disease that primarily affects upper limbs of young males. In this case report, we present a man aged 40-years with rapidly progressive weakness and atrophy in his left hand. The findings of nerve conduction studies were consistent with left ulnar neuropathy at t...
We describe a patient with fractures of both bones of the forearm in whom flexible intramedullary nail fixation of the radius alone led to ulnar malunion and a symptomatic distal radio-ulnar joint subluxation. This was successfully treated by ulnar osteotomy.
