While the incidence rates for skin melanoma have increased worldwide in the last decades, Breslow tumor thickness has decreased1. The incidence of in situ melanoma has also increased, and it doubled in the USA between 1988 and 20062. These recent trends are in part due to the diffusion of early diagnosis1,2, which is based on the assumption that the detection of less invasive lesions (i.e., tho...

This paper is on the elasto-plastic analysis of plane stress problems. A five-parameter yield surface is presented. This yield criterion uses associate flow along with mixed hardening rule. The analytical formulations are written and related computer program for non-linear analysis is prepared. Finally, based on the formulations, numerical examples are solved.

OBJECTIVE To report 10 cases of rectus abdominis endometrioma, emphasizing the clinical presentations, imaging investigations, cytohistological findings, and surgical treatment employed. METHODS This is a descriptive analysis of 10 surgically-proven cases of rectus abdominis muscle endometriosis, seen over a 5-year period from 2007 to 2012 at Sohag University Hospital, Sohag, Egypt and Najran...

In this paper we present the design and implementation of a distributed index architecture to facilitate metadata discovery on large networks. Many current information discovery systems use crawlers to search the Internet, constructing metadata from the data they nd. Instead, we propose a general distributed index architecture that uses descriptive hierarchies to organize metadata and route met...

Clustering analysis is a descriptive task that seeks to identify homogeneous groups of objects based on the values of their attributes. This paper proposes a new algorithm for K-medoids clustering which runs like the K-means algorithm and tests several methods for selecting initial medoids. The proposed algorithm calculates the distance matrix once and uses it for finding new medoids at every i...

This paper uses descriptive statistics and regression analyses to esamine the relationship between exchange rate variability and output volatility in developed countries based on 1961 to 1984 data. The results indicate that a flexible exchange rate system is associated with less, not more, dispersion in output growth across industrialized countries despite a more turbulent global environment. A...

The systematic test is an inevitable part of the verification and validation process for software. The most important prerequisite for a thorough software test is the design of relevant test cases, since they determine the kind and scope and hence the quality of the test. The graphical editor CTE (classification-tree editor) presented in this paper supports the systematic design of black-box te...

Geo-information technologies are valuable tools for ecological assessment in stressed environments. Visualizing natural features prone to disasters from the oil sector spatially not only helps in focusing the scope of environmental management with records of changes in affected areas, but it also furnishes information on the pace at which resource extraction affects nature. Notwithstanding the ...

In this paper, we evaluate and contrast two fuzzy classifiers for credit scoring. The first classifier uses evolutionary optimisation and boosting whereas the second classifier is based on a fuzzy neural network. We show that, for the case at hand, the boosted genetic fuzzy classifier performs better than both the neurofuzzy classifier and the well-known C4.5 algorithm that we included as a ref...
