In this paper we present our work about Computer Based Speech Therapy systems optimization. We focus especially in using a fuzzy expert system in order to determine specific parameters of personalized therapy i.e. number, length and content of training sessions. The efficiency of this new approach was tested during an experiment performed with our CBST, named LOGOMON.

In intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) treatment planning, beam angles are usually preselected on the basis of experience and intuition. Therefore, getting an appropriate beam configuration needs a very long time. Based on the present situation, the paper puts forward beam orientation optimization using ant colony optimization (ACO). We use ant colony optimization to select the beam co...

We aim at (1) defining and measuring a "complexity" index for the optimization process of an intensity modulated radiation therapy treatment plan (IMRT TP), (2) devising an efficient approximate optimization strategy, and (3) evaluating the impact of the complexity of the optimization process on the radiobiological quality of the treatment. In this work, for a prostate therapy case, the IMRT TP...

The treatment of established acute kidney injury (AKI) is largely supportive in nature. Renal replacement therapy remains the cornerstone of management for the minority of patients who have severe AKI. Optimization of renal replacement therapy may modulate the high mortality associated with AKI. Recent trials indicated that continuous renal replacement therapy does not confer a survival advanta...

Cardiac resynchronization therapy has been an effective option in patients with advanced heart failure. However, 20 to 30% of the patients do not benefit from this therapy. Clinical, electrocardiographic and echocardiographic criteria have been studied in an attempt to select patients who will benefit from a cardiac resynchronization therapy, and the echocardiogram is important both in the sele...

delivery of exogenous materials such as nucleic acids, peptides, proteins, and drugs into cells is an important strategy in modern cellular and molecular biology. recently, the development of gene carriers for efficient gene transfer into cells has attracted a great attention. furthermore, lack of effective drug delivery is one of the major problems of cancer chemotherapy. many physical methods...

The treatment planning software TRiP98 [1, 2, 3] is successfully used in the ion therapy project at GSI. A crucial part of the treatment planning is the particle number optimization in order to achieve a target dose distribution as close as possible to the prescribed biological dose distribution. The optimization task can be expressed mathematically by the minimization of a multidimensional obj...

From 1997 until 2008 about 440 cancer patients were successfully treated in the ion therapy project at GSI. The patient treatment planning was performed with the software TRiP [1, 2]. A crucial part of the treatment planning is the particle number optimization with the goal to achieve a target dose distribution as close as possible to the prescribed biological dose distribution. The optimizatio...

Any process in which competing solutions replicate with errors and numbers of their copies depend on their respective fitnesses is the evolutionary optimization process. As during carcinogenesis mutated genomes replicate according to their respective qualities, carcinogenesis obviously qualifies as the evolutionary optimization process and conforms to common mathematical basis. The optimization...

although many methods exist for intensity modulated radiotherapy (imrt) fluence map optimization for crisp data, based on clinical practice, some of the involved parameters are fuzzy. in this paper, the best fluence maps for an imrt procedure were identifed as a solution of an optimization problem with a quadratic objective function, where the prescribed target dose vector was fuzzy. first, a d...
