Superoxide dismutases (SODs) represent the major antioxidant defense system against superoxide anions (O2 ). Three isoforms of superoxide dismutase have been identified in mammals: copper-zinc SOD (Cu, ZnSOD), manganese SOD (Mn-SOD), and extracellular SOD (ecSOD). Cu, Znand Mn-SOD are localized intracellularly, whereas the last discovered SOD isoform, ecSOD,1 is secreted and bound to heparan su...

The aim of this study was to determine the effects phenolic substances in different plants (mulberry, apple, walnut and plum) on hemocyte counts antioxidant enzyme activities Hyphantria cunea larvae infected with granulovirus (HycuGV) uninfected. In study, contents plant materials were firstly determined. Then, these ingredients uninfected As a result all groups increased infection activity, ph...

To provide a theoretical basis for biogenic fly-killing pesticides, in this study, we sought to examine the lethal effects of Lepista nuda mycelium-supplemented diets Drosophila melanogaster. In doing so, also studied on lifespan, antioxidant enzyme activity, peroxide content, relative transcript amounts genes, signaling pathways, and lifespan. Lower activated system prolonged while higher had ...

A novel Cu/Zn-containing superoxide dismutase (SOD) was isolated from the fungal strain Humicola lutea 103. Previously, a protective effect of this enzyme (HLSOD) against tumor growth and also superoxide production in Graffi tumor-bearing hamsters (TBH) were established. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of HLSOD on the activity of endogenous SOD and catalase in the cel...

Maintaining electron flow through the photosynthetic apparatus, even in the absence of a sufficient amount of NADP as an electron acceptor, is essential for chloroplast protection from photooxidative stress. At least two different pathways are thought to participate in this process, i.e. cyclic electron flow and the water-water cycle. Although the function of the water-water cycle was inferred ...

BACKGROUND The function of endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs), which are key cells in vascular repair, is impaired in diabetes mellitus. Nitric oxide (NO) and reactive oxygen species can regulate EPC functions. EPCs tolerate oxidative stress by upregulating superoxide dismutase (SOD), the enzyme that neutralizes superoxide anion (O2-). Therefore, we investigated the roles of NO and SOD in gluc...

This communication describes the superoxide dismutase (SOD)-like activity of mononuclear iron(III) complexes with pentadentate monocarboxylamido ligands. The SOD activity can be controlled by the electronic nature of the substituent group on the ligand. The nitro-substituted complex showed clear cytoprotective activity against menadione-mediated oxidative stress in cultured cells.

Background: Introduction: Physical exercise is known to lessen vulnerability to brain damage under different pathologic conditions. The aim of this study was to investigate the protective role of regular exercise on hippocampus in hypoperfusion condition. Materials and Methods: The wistar rats were randomly divided to one four groups, control (surgery without occlusion)(first), hypoperfusion(...
