Inherent changes in foods during storage are often caused by water sorption or desorption that often results in product matrix instability. Water sorption behavior differs depending on the matrix through which it moves. Often, concurrent phenomenon such as crystallization modifies water's movement. We describe a novel use of hyperspectral imaging combined with Fourier Transform Near Infrared (F...
background: it is intriguing and imperative that the comparison of the iron preparations in hemodialysis (hd) patients. th is study aimed to observe the short-term effi cacy of parenteral iron sucrose and ferric chloride in hd patients. materials and methods: this was a consecutive 10-week single-blind study in taiwan. an intravenous iron supplement of 100 mg/week was administered as an infusio...
In vitro regeneration of two cultivars of carnation, namely, ‘Nelson’ and ‘Impulse’ was studied through direct somatic embryogenesis. Somatic embryos were formed directly on petal explants cultured on Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium containing different concentrations (0.2, 0.5, 1, 2, 4, 6 mg 1-1) of picloram. Maximum embryogenesis was obtained with 1 and 2 mg/l picloram. Globular shaped embryo...
Slurries of whey protein concentrate (WPC) or sodium caseinate (Na-CN) mixed with sucrose (36% T.S.) were subjected to microparticulation by a high shear homogenizer operated at 27,000 rpm for 2, 4, and 6 min to facilitate gel formation. After microparticulation treatment, the milk protein and sucrose slurries were evaporated at 85 degrees C for 60 min under a partial vacuum (20 to 45 mm of Hg)...
Sucrose has been detected as a seasonal photosynthetic product in spinach chloroplast preparations. Sucrose when present accounted for up to 30% of the CO(2) fixed. Experiments in which sucrose was formed have been compared with experiments in which it was not formed, and a possible control mechanism for sucrose synthesis is discussed.
Sucrose breath hydrogen tests were performed on 7 children with proved sucrase isomaltase deficiency. All children had raised breath hydrogen excretion. The amount of hydrogen produced and symptoms experienced increased with increasing sucrose loads. The sucrose breath hydrogen test appears to be a reliable indicator of sucrose malabsorption in sucrase isomaltase deficiency.
Radioactive sucrose, l-leucine, l-glutamate, and gamma-aminobutyrate were applied exogenously to abraded areas of soybean leaves. The three amino acids were translocated with similar velocities and mass transfer rates on a molar basis, although they were metabolized differently in the sink tissue. The concentration dependence of leucine translocation showed a triphasic saturation response, whil...
A thiobarbituric acid (TBA) reaction for measuring lipid peroxidation products was evaluated for interference by several ingredients commonly used in solutions to prepare or analyze tissue homogenates or subcellular organelles. These included sucrose (up to 100 mM final concentration in the assay medium), Tris-maleate (up to 40 mM), imidazole (up to 20 mM), inorganic phosphate (up to 10 mM), an...
