This paper proposes a "non-contact virtual clay modeling interface." We developed a prototype of a three-dimensional modeling system that allows the designer to deform the "virtual clay" by his or her hand movements. In our proposing method, the user's hand movement is observed using multiple cameras to estimate its position and orientation. The virtual clay is modeled by Catmull-Clark subdivis...

Mass-Spring systems are used widely to implement animation of deformable objects. We have developed a simple mass-spring system to animate a character based on physics. The reason we adopt a mass-spring system is simply we wanted more realism than Free Form Deformation (FFD) techniques can offer, as modeling physical processes. Also, this technique is preferred over Finite Element Methods (FEM)...

In this paper we propose a diffeomorphic non-rigid registration algorithm based on free-form deformations (FFDs) which are modelled by B-splines. In contrast to existing non-rigid registration methods based on FFDs the proposed diffeomorphic non-rigid registration algorithm based on free-form deformations (FFDs) which are modelled by B-splines. To construct a diffeomorphic transformation we com...

A series of RANS-based aerodynamic shape optimization for an 800-passenger blended-wing-body aircraft is performed. A gradient-based optimization algorithm and a parallel structured multiblock RANS solver with Spalart–Allmaras turbulence model are used. The derivatives are computed using a discrete adjoint method considering both frozen-turbulence and full-turbulence assumptions. A total of 274...

In this work, we show that the eigenvalues of the problem  (∆2 + V (x) + λ)u(x) = 0 x ∈ Ω u(x) = ∆u(x) = 0 x ∈ ∂Ω are generically simple in the set of C4 regular regions of Rn, n ≥ 2. In fact, we prove that there exists a residual set of regions C4 diffeomorphic to a given Ω such that all the eigenvalues for a supported plate equation are simple.

In situations outside those identified with routine elastic structural analysis, there is often a need for formulation in mixed form. Small-deformation elastostatics, expressed in terms of stress, strain, and displacement, is described here in the form of either of two complementary constrained-extremum problems. The set of governing equations and boundary conditions of elastostatics are obtain...

A quark model relation between the neutron charge form factor and the N → ∆ charge quadrupole form factor is used to predict the C2/M1 ratio in the N → ∆ transition from the elastic neutron form factor data. Excellent agreement with the electro-pionproduction data is found, indicating the validity of the suggested relation. The implication of the negative C2/M1 ratio for the intrinsic deformati...

In this paper we introduce a new method for non-rigid voxel-based registration of medical images. There exist many applications where an alignment between two image datasets has to be established. Often a registration of a time-shifted medical image sequence with appearing deformation of soft tissue (e.g. preand intraoperative data) has to be conducted. Soft tissue deformations are usually high...

A large number of algorithms have been developed to perform non-rigid registration and it is a tool commonly used in medical image analysis. The free-form deformation algorithm is a well-established technique, but is extremely time consuming. In this paper we present a parallel-friendly formulation of the algorithm suitable for graphics processing unit execution. Using our approach we perform r...

a 5th order shear deformation theory considering transverse shear deformation effect as well as transverse normal strain deformation effect is presented for static flexure   analysis of simply supported isotropic plate. the assumed displacement field accounts for non-linear variation of in-plane displacements as well as transverse displacement through the plate thickness. the condition of zero ...
