Several research groups have developed models for estimating the work-related fatigue associated with shiftworkers' duty schedules. In June 2002, invited members of seven of these groups attended the Fatigue and Performance Modeling Workshop in Seattle, WA. At the workshop, each group described the background and conceptual basis of their model, and an independent party compared the models' pre...
Stress fracture compression and ten at the inferior surfac requires only resting stress fracture of the surface of the femor neck. It is gener intervention. Stres serious and difficu imaging modalities diagnosis can allow completed femoral young soldier. Even suffer from osteonec not only precludes t results in a medica Identifying the spec femur of the individ compression, stress this injury a...
Principles For the purpose of this article casualty fractures are defined as those which may be treated totally in the Accident Department, or treated there initially and then referred to a fracture clinic. The exact definition varies with different hospitals and the seniority of the casualty officer. The casualty officer generally has not the knowledge or experience to treat many fractures, an...
Basquin's law of fatigue states that the lifetime of the system has a power-law dependence on the external load amplitude, tf approximately sigma 0- alpha, where the exponent alpha has a strong material dependence. We show that in spite of the broad scatter of the exponent alpha, the fatigue fracture of heterogeneous materials exhibits universal features. We propose a generic scaling form for t...
The influence of increased train loads on the dynamic amplification for bridge action effects are investigated using simple models such as two-mass oscillators. The results show, the bridge dynamic amplification factor decreases when carriage weights are increased. This procedure facilitates more accurate calculation of fatigue stresses.
We report a prospective study of 783 male Israeli recruits aged from 17 to 26 years. The risk of stress fracture was inversely proportional to age on both univariate and multivariate analysis. Each year of increase of age above 17 years reduced the risk of stress fracture by 28%.
Stress fractures are caused by repetitive microtraumas that occur during unusual or increased activities. Clinical suspicion is essential for the diagnosis. A twenty-years old soldier was presented with bilateral knee pain and restriction of knee movements after a period of training for ceremonial march. Although plain X-rays were normal, scintigraphy and MRI revealed stress fractures at metaph...
BACKGROUND Stress fractures of the base of the acromion are rare and tend to progress well when conservatively treated. The need for surgery due to this type of fracture has only been reported in two case reports. CASE PRESENTATION A 39-year-old patient, manual laborer, with a stress fracture at the base of the acromion that required surgical treatment due to persistent symptoms and consolida...
