Streptococcus mutans is frequently associated with dental caries. Bacterial fermentation of food debris generates an acidic environment on the tooth surface, ultimately resulting in tooth deterioration. Therefore, various mouthwashes have been used to reduce and prevent Streptococcus mutans. The aim of this study was to evaluate the antimicrobial activities of 4 commercial mouthwashes and those...
objective: punica granatum has been used for many years in folk medicine due to several purposes. the aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of methanolic extract of punica granatum peel (mepgp) against streptococcus mutans, staphylococcus aureus, streptococcus salivarius, streptococcus sanguinis, staphylococcus epidermidis, actynomyces viscosus, lactobacillus acidophilus and candi...
The objective of the present study was to assess the chemical and bromatological composition and in situ degradability of elephant grass silages inoculated with Streptococcus bovis isolated from cattle rumen. A complete randomized design was used with four treatments and six replications: elephant grass silage, elephant grass silage inoculated with 10(6) CFU/g Streptococcus bovis JB1 strains; e...
In their study of Streptococcus zymogenes, Sherman, Stark and Mauer (1937) stated that on the basis of a physiological study of a few of Dr. Lancefield's cultures, the Lancefield group D hemolytic streptococcus and Streptococcus zymogenes appeared to be the same. There was nothing essentially new in this suggestion: Lancefield and Hare (1935) had previously stated that the group D streptococci ...
Streptococcus infantarius subsp. infantarius, a member of the Streptococcus bovis/Streptococcus equinus complex, is highly prevalent in artisanal dairy fermentations in Africa. Here the complete genome sequence of the dairy-adapted S. infantarius subsp. infantarius CJ18 strain--a strain predominant in traditionally fermented camel milk (suusac) from Kenya--is presented.
The genetic diversity of group B Streptococcus in young, nonpregnant women is not well studied. Application of multilocus sequence analysis to 85 group B Streptococcus strains recovered from college students revealed similarities and differences in distribution of group B Streptococcus lineages, compared with that of previously studied pregnant populations, and revealed that strains of 1 clone ...
Streptococcus strains from animal and human sources identified biochemically as Streptococcus porcinus were investigated by 16S rRNA gene sequencing. The nine human strains isolated between 1997 and 2005 formed a single cluster with more than 2.1% dissimilarity with S. porcinus strains from animal sources. A novel species, Streptococcus pseudoporcinus sp. nov., is proposed.
In 2004, veterinary laboratories in the United Kingdom reported a novel Lancefield group B streptococcus, Streptococcus halichoeri, in seals. We report a case of Streptococcus halichoeri causing postoperative empyema in a patient. A search of the literature revealed that this is the first case of S. halichoeri ever reported in humans.
Streptococcus dysgalactiae subspecies equisimilis (SDSE) is a β-hemolytic Streptococcus that possesses genetic and clinical similarities to Streptococcus pyogenes. It is increasingly recognized as the etiological microorganism of invasive diseases. We report a case of a 74-year-old male who was admitted to this hospital with lower back and neck pain and infected with leg ulcer. The diagnosis of...
INTRODUCTION Bacterial infections may appear as sequelae of remote tuberculous infections, especially thoracic infections. The simultaneous appearance of tuberculosis and bacterial infection is not common, and, to our knowledge, the association of infection by Streptococcus anginosus and Mycobacterium tuberculosis has not been reported previously in the literature. CASE PRESENTATION We report...
