High abstinence rates characterize alcohol-dependent liver graft recipients. The immunosuppressants cyclosporine A (CsA) and tacrolimus (TRL) also inhibit calcineurin (CLN) in the brain. Previously, we found that CsA reduces alcohol consumption in C57BL/6J mice. The goals of the present study were: 1) to compare the ethanol preference effects of CsA against TRL, as well as sirolimus (SRL), an i...

Restrictocin and related fungal endoribonucleases from the α-sarcin family site-specifically cleave the sarcin/ricin loop (SRL) on the ribosome to inhibit translation and ultimately trigger cell death. Previous studies showed that the SRL folds into a bulged-G motif and tetraloop, with restrictocin achieving a specificity of ∼1000-fold by recognizing both motifs only after the initial binding s...

This study examines whether an ITS that fosters the use of metacognitive strategies can benefit from variations in its prompts based on learners’ selfregulatory behaviors. We use log files and questionnaire data from 116 participants who interacted with MetaTutor, an advanced multi-agent learning environment that helps learners to develop their self-regulated learning (SRL) skills, in 3 conditi...

This paper proposes a self-regulated learning (SRL) system with scaffolding support in order to develop independent learning skills among students. The SRL system uses self-regulated learning and scaffolding theories to appeal to both instructors and learners. On the part of the instructors, a Content Accessibility Subsystem is provided to easily organize learning materials and to dynamically p...

In this study we examined the effectiveness of self-regulated learning (SRL) training in facilitating college students’ science learning with hypermedia. Sixty (N = 60) undergraduate students were randomly assigned to either a training condition or a control condition and used a hypermedia environment to learn about the circulatory system. On Day 1, all participants were administered a pretest ...

In college introductory science courses, students are challenged with mastering large amounts of disciplinary content while developing as autonomous and effective learners. Self-regulated learning (SRL) is the process of setting learning goals, monitoring progress toward them, and applying appropriate study strategies. SRL characterizes successful, "expert" learners, and develops with time and ...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) per se is not known to have negative effects on the kidney. MMF alone or in combination with sirolimus, can be the basis of calcineurin inhibitor (CNI)-free, kidney sparing drug protocols. However, long-term outcomes in patients on MMF/SRL seem to be inferior to those treated with regimens that include the CNI tacrolimus (TAC) due to an increas...

The aim of our paper is to describe an unusual pulmonary toxicity of sirolimus (SRL) in a kidney transplant recipient. We present a 34-year-old woman with a second renal transplantation, complicated with steroid-resistant acute rejection and chronic allograft dysfunction. Two years after initiating SRL, she presented complaints of progressive dyspnoea, nonproductive cough, chest pain and low-gr...

Despite the widespread assumption that students require scaffolding support for self-regulated learning (SRL) processes in computer-based learning environments (CBLEs), there is little clarity as to which types of scaffolds are most effective. This study offers a literature review covering the various scaffolds that support SRL processes in the domain of science education. Effective scaffolds a...

After briefly mentioning the historical background of PLL/SRL, we examine PRISM, a logic-based modeling language, as an instance of PLL/SRL research. We first look at the distribution semantics, PRISM’s semantics, which defines a probability measure on a set of possible Herbrand models. We then mention characteristic features of PRISM as a tool for probabilistic modeling.
