1. Introduction. This is a fascinating paper on an important topic: the choice of predictor variables in large-scale linear models. A previous paper in these pages attacked the same problem using the " LARS " algorithm (Efron, Hastie, Johnstone and Tibshirani [3]); actually three algorithms including the Lasso as middle case. There are tantalizing similarities between the Dantzig Selector (DS) ...

in this paper we introduce and study besselian $g$-frames. we show that the kernel of associated synthesis operator for a besselian $g$-frame is finite dimensional. we also introduce $alpha$-dual of a $g$-frame and we get some results when we use the hilbert-schmidt norm for the members of a $g$-frame in a finite dimensional hilbert space.

An implantable miniaturized telescope (IMT) for low vision has recently been developed. Surgically inserted into only one eye of patients with bilateral central visual loss, the IMT provides a nominal magnification of 3.0x and a field-of-view of 6.6 degrees (9.2 degrees for the 2.2x magnification version). Theoretical concerns have been raised regarding the ability of patients to function with ...

In this thesis I examine the philosophical views of John Searle, Guy Debord, and Jean Baudrillard. These thinkers have radically different methodologies and theoretical alignments, but they are not entirely dissimilar. John Searle argues that there are two types of facts—those independent of human observation and those whose meaning depends on agreement. Guy Debord posits that modern society ha...

PURPOSE To evaluate whether visual target character and visibility affects spontaneous eye blink rate (SEBR) in primary eye gaze and silence. METHODS Video recordings were made of young healthy adults who were either emmetropic (n=32) or who wore spectacles for refractive error (range -4.75D and +4.50D (n=31). Emmetropes had 5min recordings made whilst seated and looking towards a distant whi...
