In this paper, we establish Lp norm bounds for spectral clusters on compact manifolds, under the assumption that the metric is C1,1. Precisely, we show that the Lp estimates proven by Sogge in the case of smooth metrics hold under this limited regularity assumption. It is known by examples of Smith-Sogge that such estimates fail for C1,α metrics if α < 1.

In The Sources of Normativity, Christine Korsgaard argues that in order to avoid the threat of moral skepticism, our moral theories must show how the claims they make about the nature of our actions obligate us to act morally. A theory that can justify the normativity of morality in this way answers what Korsgaard calls “the normative question.” Although Korsgaard claims that only Kantian theor...

To assess the link between accent and intelligibility, previous research has heavily relied on human responses, demonstrating that human assessment is influenced by such subjective factors as linguistic proficiency (Pihko, 1997), familiarity (Smith, 1992), age (Burda, 2000), reactions to speakers’ kinetic cues (Bara, 1992; Rubin, 1992), and dialectal differences (Smith & Bisazza, 1982). In part...

The design and implementation of Generalized Minimum Variance control laws for nonlinear multivariable systems that can include severe nonlinearities is considered. The quadratic cost index minimised involves dynamically weighted error and nonlinear control signal costing terms. The aim here is to show the controller obtained is simple to design and implement. The features of the control law ar...

Urban green spaces may improve human health and well-being. However, also emit allergenic pollen these trigger asthma, allergic disease, respiratory infections. How allergy risks in be modified by environmental change is still not widely understood. This study analyzed tree inventory data of 18 urban (5940 trees; 278 taxa; 93 ha) the Brussels Capital Region, Belgium. We investigated present ris...
