We study the structure and energetics of AuN clusters by means of parameterfree density-functional calculations (N ≤ 8), jellium calculations (N ≤ 60), embeddedatom calculations (N ≤ 150), and parameterized density-functional calculations (N ≤ 40) in combination with different methods for determining the structure of the lowest total energy. By comparing the results from the different approache...

This paper presents the design, fabrication and preliminary experimental results of a flexure plate wave (FPW) resonator using sol-gel derived lead zirconate titanates (PZT) thin films. The resonator adopts a two-port structure with reflecting grates on the composite membrane of PZT and SiNx. The design of the reflecting grating is derived from a SAW resonator model using COM theory to produce ...

— General guidelines for a new fast computation of blocklength 8m+4 DFTs are presented, which is based on a Laurent series involving matrices. Results of non-trivial real multiplicative complexity are presented for blocklengths N≤64, achieving lower multiplication counts than previously published FFTs. A detailed description for the cases m=1 and m=2 is presented.

Two approaches are used to assess the distribution assumptions. One is by implementing numerically convoluted, theoretical Goodness of Fit (GoF) tests such as the Chi Square, Anderson Darling or Kolmogorov-Smirnov. Their lengthy calculations often require the use of specialized software, not always readily available. On the other hand, there exist practical procedures that are easy to understan...

In this paper, a two-dimensional (2D) quantitative sonoelastographic technique for estimating local shear wave speeds from slowly propagating shear wave interference patterns (termed crawling waves) is presented. Homogeneous tissuemimicking phantom results demonstrate the ability of quantitative sonoelastographic imaging to accurately reconstruct the true underlying shear wave speed distributio...

Laminar Newtonian flow through a 2-dimensional channel with one sinusoidal wall is studied for wavelengths comparable to, or much larger than, the channel height. In the long wave limit which is solved analytically, the pressure is in phase with the wave slope and the shear stress is in phase with the wave height. As the wavelength is reduced, the shear stress maximum moves upstream of the peak...

This paper studies the propagation of shear waves in a composite structure consisting of a piezoelectric layer perfectly bonded over a micropolar elastic half space. The general dispersion equations for the existence of shear waves are obtained analytically in the closed form. Some particular cases have been discussed and in one special case the relation obtained is in agreement with existing r...

Radar observations of the ocean surface can be affected by impacting raindrops. Ring-wave measurements are presented for drops of 2.2 and 2.8 mm in diameter impacting on fresh and salt water surfaces initially at rest. They are based on the observation of the mirror image of a sharp edge on the perturbed surface. The retrieved wave profiles show a rather stable characteristic wavenumber (0.2 mm...

Motivated by seismological problems, we have studied a fourth-order split scheme for the elastic wave equation. We split in the spatial directions and obtain locally one-dimensional systems to be solved. We have analyzed the new scheme and obtained results showing consistency and stability. We have used the split scheme to solve problems in two and three dimensions. We have also looked at the i...
