Seismic interpreters are often faced with the need to visualise and interpret a number of seismic attributes simultaneously. Side-by-side visualisation of the individual attributes and use of monochromatic colour bars are still widely used techniques, which nevertheless present a number of limitations. In this paper we discuss how colour can be used effectively in order to support simultaneous ...

The two-dimensional phase congruency algorithm using the log Gabor transform as developed by Kovesi (2003) is used to look for features such as edges and corners on two-dimensional images. In image processing, the algorithm has applications to robot vision and feature enhancement. In seismic analysis, we also look for features on 3D seismic cubes, but the features we look for are structural in ...

geological facies interpretation is essential for reservoir studying. the method of classification and identification seismic traces is a powerful approach for geological facies classification and distinction. use of neural networks as classifiers is increasing in different sciences like seismic. they are computer efficient and ideal for patterns identification. they can simply learn new algori...

Manual stratigraphic interpretation of modern 3-D seismic images is extremely timeconsuming. We present a method based on nonstationary predictive signal/noise separation for automatically recognizing the occurence of a predefined pattern in seismic images. The method is tested on 2-D synthetic and real seismic images, and is shown to reliably detect the presence of unconformities in both.

In recent years, the micro seismic monitoring technology have the widespread application in Chinese reservoir geological activity monitoring and mine safety monitoring. The effect of micro seismic monitoring technology is very good. However, in the study of micro earthquake, Chinese research started late relatively with foreign. This paper summarizes the current Development status and the appli...

Today, the major challenge in reservoir characterization is integrating data coming from different sources in varying scales, in order to obtain an accurate and high-resolution reservoir model. The role of seismic data in this integration is often limited to providing a structural model for the reservoir. Its relatively low resolution usually limits its further use. However, its areal coverage ...

Probabilistic seismic risk assessments (PSRA) are used to quantify the seismic damage probability of complex engineering structures due to seismic events. In such systems, the seismic capacities of individual relevant components are determined by structure mechanics. A significant digits computation method to quantify the mean seismic failure probability (fragility) for given component capacity...

Unfaulting seismic images to correlate seismic reflectors across faults is helpful in seismic interpretation, and is useful for seismic horizon extraction. Methods for unfaulting typically assume that fault geometries need not change during unfaulting. However, for seismic images containing multiple faults and, especially, intersecting faults, this assumption often results in unnecessary distor...

Petrophysics and Geophysics have not always worked in the past as closely together as one might expect. This paper discusses current advances, and sketches future developments. The major objective of Geophysical Research was to obtain sharper pictures. With the advent of 3-D seismic, there is a strong trend to make displays both in time and depth, and to convert seismic attributes into rock pro...
