Electrical injuries sometimes cause grave internal lesions that go unnoticed in an initial exploration. Low-tension electrical energy can produce burns of variable depth by flash or conduction, but we rarely find fractures. This case reports a case of bilateral shoulder fractures secondary to low-voltage injury which were undiagnosed in the emergency approach.
Kolmogoroff and Nagumo proved that the quasi-arithmetic means correspond exactly to the decomposable sequences of continuous, symmetric, strictly increasing in each variable and reflexive functions. We replace decomposability and symmetry in this characterization by a generalization of the decomposability. AMS (1991) subject classification: Primary 39B12, 39B22, Secondary 26B35.
Efficient access to a large chemical space based on new scaffolds with defined 3D conformations and highly variable in the side chains is needed to find novel functional materials. Four heterocyclic scaffolds based on a four component Ugi reaction of α-amino acids, oxo components, isocyanides and primary or secondary amines suitably functionalized are described. A handful of examples are descri...
Choroidal neovascular membranes (CNVMs) rarely complicate toxoplasmic chorioretinitis and are managed by observation; antiparasitic, anti-inflammatory medication; laser photocoagulation; surgical excision; or photodynamic therapy, with variable outcomes. As occurs with CNVMs secondary to age-related macular degeneration, Toxoplasma gondii increases expression of hypoxia-inducible factor–1 in ti...
We rigorously prove the convergence of the micro-macro limit for particle approximations of the Aw-Rascle-Zhang equations with a maximal density constraint. The lack of BV bounds on the density variable is supplied by a compensated compactness argument. Mathematics Subject Classification (2010). Primary 35L87; Secondary 35L75, 35A35.
In this article we present a Ladyženskaja-Prodi-Serrin Criteria for regularity of solutions for the Navier-Stokes equation in three dimensions which incorporates weak L norms in the space variables and log improvement in the time variable. Mathematics Subject Classification (2010). Primary 76D03; Secondary 76D05, 35Q30.
Post-stroke movement disorders are uncommon, but comprise an important part of secondary movement disorders. These exert variable and heterogeneous clinical courses according to the stroke lesion and its temporal relationships. Moreover, the predominant stroke symptoms hinder a proper diagnosis in clinical practice. This article describes the etiology, treatment options and prognosis of post-st...
Traumatisms of distal extremities are frequent in children. They can associate fingertip skin, bone and nail complex injuries. Their severity level is very variable, from simple subungual bruise to distal amputation. Initial care needs careful repair of injured structures. Secondary treatment of sequelae is much more difficult.
Independent isolates of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) exhibit a striking genomic diversity, most of which is located in the viral envelope gene. Since this property of the HIV group of viruses may play an important role in the pathobiology of the virus, we analyzed the predicted amino acid sequences of the envelope proteins of seven different HIV strains, three of which represent sequentia...
Background: Different patterns of gender-based relationships between attitude toward smoking and self-esteem with smoking behavior have reported. However, such associations may be much more complex than a simply supposed linear relationship. We aimed to propose a method of providing hand details on the total and gender-based scenarios of the relationships between attitude toward smoking and sel...
