6.1 Abstract Effect of binding of three surfactants, alpha olefin sulfonate (AOS, anionic), TritonXIOO (TX-100, non-ionic) and cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB, cationic) to the hydrogels of gelatin was studied at room temperature (25°C) by dynamic light scattering and oscillatory rheology with surfactant concentrations (20-1 OOmM) much larger than the critical micellar concentrations (er...

Microstructural and mechanical properties of alkali activated binders based on blends of Colombian granulated blast furnace slag (GBFS) and fly ash (FA) were investigated. The synthesis of alkali activated binders was conducted at 85 °C for 24 h with different slag/fly ash ratios (100:0, 80:20, 60:40, 40:60, 20:80, and 0:100). Mineralogical and microstructural characterization was carried out b...

Recent studies suggest that the pressure changes occur at the rates of 0.5 to 1.5 kHz. Therefore, studying brain tissue at blast-rate deformations requires a test method with loading duration of about 1 ms. Although the material properties of brain tissue have been studied since 1960’s, a limitation of the previous studies is that in most of them the strain rates were below 100 s -1 ; making th...

Schmidt and Takagi proposed a variant of the Paillier encryption scheme which employs modulus n = pq [16]. Their scheme has a good property that the one-wayness is under the factoring assumption, and has an additively homomorphic property. Their scheme can be applied to trapdoor commitment and on-line/off-line signature. In this paper, we propose a new variant of the Schmidt-Takagi encryption s...

in this work we use density functional theory based on the ultra-soft pseudo-potential to calculate thestructural, mechanical and thermal properties of narrow single walled bn, aln and gan nanotubes.the electron-electron interactions were expressed within the local density approximation (lda). wehave also obtained the phonon dispersion and elastic constants of these nanotubes using the densityf...

There are various approaches to computing dry rock bulk modulus as a function of porosity and, from this, inferring velocity and density changes due to reservoir fluid change as a function of porosity. One such approach is the pore space stiffness method. A second approach is the critical porosity model (Mavko and Mukerji, 1995). Using the clean sandstones at different pressures from a dataset ...

A new three-dimensional unit cell model has been developed for modeling three constituent phases including inclusion, interphase and matrix. The total elastic modulus of nano-composite is evaluated.  Numerical results are in good agreement with the previous proposed theoretical modeling. Higher matrix and inclusion elastic modulus both can dramatically influence the total elastic modulus.

Bone mass is the most important determinant of the mechanical strength of bones and spatial structure is the second. In general the spatial structure and mechanical properties of bones such as the breaking strength are directional dependent. The Mean Intercept Length (MIL) and Line Frequency Deviation (LFD) are two methods for quantifying directional aspects of the spatial structure of bone. Th...

High strain magnitude and low strain frequency are important stimuli for tendon adaptation. Increasing the rate and duration of the applied strain may enhance the adaptive responses. Therefore, our purpose was to investigate the effect of strain rate and duration on Achilles tendon adaptation. The study included two experimental groups (N=14 and N=12) and a control group (N=13). The participant...
