The nonequilibrium relaxational dynamics of the solid-on-solid model on a disordered substrate and the sine-Gordon model with random phase shifts is studied numerically. Close to the super-roughening temperature Tg our results for the autocorrelations, spatial correlations, and response function as well as for the fluctuation dissipation ratio agree well with the prediction of a recent one-loop...

Limited dispersal distance, whether due to vegetative growth or localized 2 reproduction, generates spatial clustering. Many invasive plants, in particular, propagate clonally and aggregate spatially. Local dispersal concentrates intraspecific interactions 4 within clusters, while most between-species interactions occur near cluster boundaries. Spread of a spatially clustered, invasive plant th...

Nonmagnetic particles in a carrier ferrofluid acquire an effective dipolar moment when placed in an external magnetic field. This fact leads them to form chains that will roughen due to Brownian motion when the magnetic field is decreased. We study this process through experiments, theory and simulations, three methods that agree on the scaling behavior over 5 orders of magnitude. The rms width...

We find that studying the simplest of the coupled nonequilibrium growth equations of Barabasi by self-consistent mode coupling requires the use of dressed vertices. Using the vertex renormalization, we find a roughening exponent which already in the leading order is quite close to the numerical value.

~Ve consider conventional relaxation dynamics for surfaces, both evaporation dynamics and surface diffusion. We point out that the cusp singularity of the surface free energy implies that the relaxation dynamics has to be treated as a free boundary value problem. On this basis we predict, under appropriate conditions, the spontaneous formation of facets and a finite time of healing for the high

– We studied interplay between kinetic roughening and phase ordering in 1+1 dimensional single-step solid-on-solid growth model with two kinds of particles and Ising-like interaction. Evolution of both geometrical and compositional properties was investigated by Monte Carlo simulations for various strengths of coupling. We found that the initial growth is strongly affected by interaction betwee...

There exists great interest and considerable effort to explain quark confinement in Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) from the string theory viewpoint. The ideas of ’t Hooft, Polyakov, Witten, and others, and recent glueball spectrum or QCD string tension calculations in AdS theories are some illustrative examples of these activities. In a somewhat complementary approach, the search for a microscopi...

Manuscript Click here to view linked References Abstract 22 23 Stylolites are among the most prominent deformation patterns in sedimentary rocks that 24 document localized pressure solution. Recent studies revealed that stylolite roughness is 25 characterized by two distinct scaling regimes. The main goal of the present study is to 26 decipher whether this complex scaling behavior of stylolites...
