A 7-year-old boy was diagnosed with a recurrent embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma in the retroperitoneum. After resection of the mass, direct end-to-end anastomosis of the ureter was not possible owing to the length of the resected segment. Accordingly, we performed ureteral substitution by using the appendix to repair the ureteral defect.
Objective: This present study was aimed to assess the effectiveness and reliability of CT-guided nanoknife ablation in retroperitoneal tumor treatment. Methods: 2 retroperitoneal tumor patients were selected, including one pancreatic cancer patient and one colorectal cancer retroperitoneal metastatic tumor patient. The surgery was performed under general anesthesia with large aperture multi-sli...
Germ cell tumors (GCTs) are a group of tumors showing variations in clinical presentation and histopatho-logical and biological characteristics [1, 2]. The GCTs are neoplasms that develop from primordial germ cells of the human embryo, which are normally destined to produce sperm or ova. Primordial germ cells appear to originate in the yolk sac endoderm and migrate around the hind-gut to the ge...
BACKGROUND Ancient schwannomas are degenerate peripheral nerve sheath tumors that very rarely occur in the retroperitoneum. They generally reach large proportions before producing symptoms due to mass effect. We describe three cases of retroperitoneal ancient schwannomas and discuss the diagnosis and management of these tumors. CASE PRESENTATIONS Three female patients with retroperitoneal anc...
INTRODUCTION Unlike left sided accessory spleen that are seen in 10-30% of cases at autopsy, cases of right accessory spleens are extremely rare. This congenital body of healthy splenic tissue simulates tumors from neighboring organs and presents a challenge in formulating a differential diagnosis. PRESENTATION OF CASE We present the case of a patient whose CT scan of the abdomen showed a lar...
BACKGROUND The objective of this study was to examine the effectiveness and safety of lower pole (LP) approach in retroperitoneal laparoscopic radical nephrectomy (LRN). METHODS One hundred thirty-two renal cancer patients were scheduled for selective retroperitoneal LRN. The surgery parameters and outcomes were compared. Out of 132 patients, 78 (59.1%) patients underwent LRN via LP approach,...
BACKGROUND Wunderlich's syndrome, or spontaneous non-traumatic retroperitoneal hemorrhage, can be a life-threatening event. Renal angiomyolipoma is a rare benign tumor that can occur sporadically, or in association with tuberous sclerosis. A case of spontaneous retroperitoneal hemorrhage in a patient with tuberous sclerosis and bilateral renal angiomyolipoma is presented. CASE REPORT A 33-year-...
INTRODUCTION Robotic partial nephrectomy is an effective alternative to laparoscopic partial nephrectomy. The 3-arm and 4-arm transperitoneal robotic approaches are well described in the literature. However, a retroperitoneal robotic technique has yet to be fully described. We report our technique and initial experience with robotic retroperitoneal partial nephrectomy with a novel 4-arm approac...
Renal angiomyolipomas are the most common benign mesenchymal tumors of kidney and may be associated with tuberous sclerosis complex. The cause non-traumatic retroperitoneal renal bleeding is angiomyolipoma spontaneous hemorrhage can life-threatening. Treatment recommended if has bled or it larger than 4 cm. There endovascular surgical treatment options. Endovascular selective embolization prima...
