BACKGROUND Serotonin transporter knockout mice have been a powerful tool in understanding the role played by the serotonin transporter in modulating physiological function and behavior. However, little work has examined brain function in this mouse model. We tested the hypothesis that male knockout mice show exaggerated limbic activation during exposure to an emotional stressor, similar to huma...

vocabulary as a major component of language learning has been the object of numerous studies each of which has its own contribution to the field. finding the best way of learning the words deeply and extensively is the common objective of most of those studies. however, one effective way for achieving this goal is somehow neglected in the field. using a variety of activities such as games can r...

An important open problem in molecular biology is how to use computational methods to understand the structure and function of proteins given only their primary sequences. We describe and evaluate an original machine-learning approach to classifying protein sequences according to their structural folding class. Our work is novel in several respects: we use a set of protein classes that previous...

A new method for the preparation of graphene has been developed via porphyrin exfoliation of graphite in NMP. The exfoliation, which follows the intercalation of organic ammonium ions, is based on the pi-pi interaction between graphene and porphyrins. The graphene sheets prepared by this method show undisturbed sp(2) carbon networks.

An important aspect of auditory scene analysis is sequential grouping of sounds that are similar to one another in preference to sounds that follow one another. This grouping problem is captured by stream segregation tasks with alternating distinct sounds. We examined human auditory cortex activity with low noise fMRI in a stream segregation experiment relying on timbre differences of alternati...

Marker-based image segmentation has been widely used in image analysis and understanding. The well-known Meyer’s marker-based watershed algorithm by immersion is realized using the hierarchical circular queues. A new marker-based segmentation algorithm relying on disjoint set union is proposed in this paper. It consists of three steps, namely: pixel sorting, set union, and pixel resolving. The ...

A popular technique of designing multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communication systems relies on optimizing the positive semidefinite covariance matrix at source. In this paper, a unified MIMO optimization framework based Karush-Kuhn-Tucker (KKT) conditions is proposed. framework, with aid theory, <xref ref-type="theorem" rid="theorem1" xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns...
