In this paper, the authors analyse the justification, placing, validity and degree of success of some of their innovations in intra-mural experiential learning, in the light of their own theoretical understanding of the reasons for engaging in experience-based methodologies. These include: problem based learning for teams of first year students; student-managed investigations, seminars and peer...

Ability to scale up from toy examples to real life problems is a crucial issue for formal methods. Formalizing a algorithm used in vehicle automation (platooning control) in a certification perspective, we had the opportunity to study the scaling up when going from a (toy) model in 1D to a (more realistic) model in 2D. The formalism, Event-B, belongs to the family of mathematical state based me...

Among the possible approaches for expressing real-time problems with the B method, two are dominant : the use of the usual B mechanisms to define temporal constraints on one hand, and extending B through another formalism more adapted to the real-time context. We define here a possible temporal semantic for B, by using a temporal logic (the duration calculus), and we illustrate how this extensi...

We compute the real part of the 2-loop vertex corrections for charmless hadronic B decays, completing the NNLO calculation of the topological tree amplitudes in QCD factorization. Among the technical aspects we show that the hard-scattering kernels are free of soft and collinear infrared divergences at the 2-loop level, which follows after an intricate subtraction procedure involving evanescent...

We study real time tra c management in the perspective of a four-level model of tra c variations: cells, bursts, sessions, and links. Our interest is focused on the two latter levels: Using virtual channels (VCs) and virtual paths (VPs) as the managed entities on the two levels respectively, we put forward a simple and robust strategy for tra c management in real time: All nodes simultaneously ...

Accurate Free-Form Deformation is an analytical solution of deformation sampling, where a polygonal object is deformed as a set of trimmed Bézier surfaces. However, the operation is far from being interactive due to its high computational cost. In this paper, we proposed a real-time B-spline FreeForm Deformation of polygonal objects via GPU acceleration. Various time-consuming evaluations are d...

For any positive integers a, b, c, d, let Ra,b,c,d be the graph obtained from the complete graphs Ka,Kb,Kc and Kd by adding edges joining every vertex in Ka and Kc to every vertex in Kb and Kd. This paper shows that for arbitrary positive integers a, b, c and d, every root of the chromatic polynomial of Ra,b,c,d is either a real number or a non-real number with its real part equal to (a + b + c...

Emerging Infectious Diseases • www.cdc.gov/eid • Vol. 12, No. 11, November 2006 1799 6.4 nmol/L and that showed an H243Y mutant type codon. The role of such a polymorphism appears unclear. We found no association between the 3-bp indel in G7 and in vitro dhART susceptibility because mutants were regularly distributed in highly susceptible isolates and in isolates having a diminished susceptibil...

In the last twenty years, a theory of real Jordan triples has been developed. In 1994 T. Dang and B. Russo introduced the concept of J∗B–triple. These J∗B–triples include real C∗–algebras and complex JB∗–triples. However, concerning J∗B–triples, an important problem was left open. Indeed, the question was whether the complexification of a J∗B–triple is a complex JB∗–triple in some norm extendin...

The identification of Brucella can be a time-consuming and labor-intensive process that places personnel at risk for laboratory-acquired infection. Here, we describe a real-time PCR assay for confirmation of presumptive Brucella isolates. The assay was designed in a multiplex format that will allow the rapid identification of Brucella spp., B. abortus, and B. melitensis in a single test.
