Leaks represent a very important hazard for the buildings and they can affect all sorts of building materials and specially wood due to its hygroscopic properties. Excessive moisture content can affect in a negative way building processes such as the installation of wooden floors or the use of wood as a structural material. Moisture meters can provide prompt and non-destructive determination of...

In this thesis, we present an approach to perform measurements in the worldwide research network PlanetLab. We describe a framework for developing and deploying Java applications on PlanetLab and show how it can be used to develop data gathering applications. In particular, we implement a latency and a bandwidth test of which we also present some ndings derived from its analyses.

The objective of this study was to determine if measurements of breast morphology computed from three-dimensional (3D) stereophotogrammetry are equivalent to traditional anthropometric measurements obtained directly on a subject using a tape measure. 3D torso images of 23 women ranged in age from 36 to 63 who underwent or were scheduled for breast reconstruction surgery were obtained using a 3d...

objective: the aim of this study was to evaluate the influences of reconstruction and attenuation correction on the differences in the radioactivity distributions in 123i brain spect obtained by the hybrid spect/ct device. methods: we used the 3-dimensional (3d) brain phantom, which imitates the precise structure of gray mater, white matter and bone regions. it was filled with 123i solution (20...

Lymphedema can be an unfortunate side effect of cancer treatment. It is a chronic condition that, if ignored, can lead to disfigurement, immobilization, and severe infections. Several methods for assessing lymphedema are used in clinical practice, and some of these methods are reported in the literature. Although these methods can be useful and provide meaningful data, they also can be time con...

Horses lose considerably more electrolytes through sweating during prolonged exercise than can be readily replaced through feeds. The present study tested an oral electrolyte supplement (ES) designed to replace sweat electrolyte losses. We measured gastric emptying of 3 litres of ES (using gamma imaging of (99)Tc-sulfide colloid), the absorption of Na(+) and K(+) from the gastrointestinal tract...

The C-(cutaneous)-scan constitutes a simple way to evaluate the status of the lymphatic system of swollen and apparently normal extremities. We have termed the procedure C-scan because this expression emphasizes the injection of the radiotracer into the cutis. Only one scintiscan, which takes approximately 15 minutes, is performed 3 hours after injection, in contrast to other investigative proc...

introduction artificial and natural radionuclides are found in diverse environmental compartments, such as water, soil, rocks, vegetables, animals, and human body tissues. as such, humans and environments are at constant exposure of these radiation types. in this research investigated specific activities of radionuclide and dose assessment of some species of mushrooms. materials and methods in ...
