Unilateral isolated Hypoglossal nerve palsy may result due to neoplasia, trauma, infections, autoimmune or vascular causes. We report a 52 year old male who presented with right hypoglossal nerve palsy and on evaluation was diagnosed to have prostatic malignancy with metastasis to the base of skull. Unilateral hypoglossal nerve palsy as the presenting feature of carcinoma prostate is rarely des...
An isolated sixth nerve palsy may be a harbinger of underlying intracranial disease. Due to its long subarachnoid course, it may be damaged by downward shift of the brainstem as often occurs in increased or decreased intracranial pressure (“false-localizing sixth nerve palsy”). Alternatively, the sixth nerve may be involved in isolation by a compressive lesion in the cavernous sinus or along th...
Peroneal nerve injuries have been reported in association with various causes around the knee such as traumatic varus injury, traumatic dislocation, upper tibial osteotomy, knee arthroscopy and total knee arthroplasty. Two instances of varus arthritic knee associated with a peroneal nerve palsy have been reported so far. One presented with gradual onset peroneal nerve palsy that recovered with ...
Traumatic isolated cranial nerve palsies are uncommon and when they do occur, they are usually associated with severe head trauma. Cranial nerve palsy associated with mild head injury is rare. A case is reported of complete left third nerve palsy associated with mild head injury. The rate of recovery for complete third nerve palsy is slow and prolonged. The ptosis recovered in 10 months; the di...
We report the unusual presentation of coarctation of the aorta with facial nerve palsy in an infant and a child. The facial nerve palsy and hypertension resolved spontaneously after relief of the aortic coarctation. Our two cases are the first reports of unidentified coarctation of the aorta presenting as facial nerve palsy, with the infant being the youngest to be reported.
Objective Involvement of the facial nerve in leprosy can result debilitating features, including blindness. Electrophysiological studies addressing abnormalities along with its branches are limited. This study was designed to assess prevalence and pattern clinical subclinical involvement patients active disease. Methods A hospital-based cross-sectional done 75 who had leprosy. The were examined...
Multi-segment Facial Nerve Schwannoma (MFNS) is a very rare tumor, benign in nature and can arise anywhere along the course of facial nerve from its origin cerebello-pontine angle to extra cranial ramification parotid space head neck. It mimic like vestibular schwannoma other schwannoma. The most common clinical presentation palsy depending upon segment involved. We report case multi-segment ex...
Primary repair of pectoralis major tendon with bony tunnels and anchor sutures in the proximal humerus creates a potential weakness and stress riser leading to increased risk of periprosthetic fracture and nerve damage at the site of weakness with subsequent injury, if not allowed to heal satisfactorily with adequate period of rest.
BACKGROUND Non-traumatic radial nerve palsy (RNP) caused by local tumors is a rare and uncommon entity. METHODS A 62-year-old female presented with a left non-traumatic RNP, initially starting with weakness only. It was caused by a benign giant lipoma at the proximal forearm that was misdiagnosed over a period of 2 years. The slowly growth of the tumor led to an irreparable overstretching-rel...
Minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis is a widely used procedure for the treatment of fractures of the femur and the tibia. For a short time it is also used for the treatment of humeral shaft fractures. Among other advantages, the ambassadors of this technique emphasize the lower risk of nerve injuries when compared to open reduction and internal fixation. We report the case of secondary radi...
