The resistance of cherry, sweet cherry and pear varieties to bacterial canker was analyzed by using the method arti-
ficial contamination unripe fruits. Two groups were highlighted among six varieties:
Uyfehertosh Fürthosh variety exercised highest degree Turgenevka lowest degree. Three
identified ten studied cherries; cultivar Lyubava Donetskaya turned out be most resistant, ...

Pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato DC3000 produces seven to eight major extracellular proteins (EXPs) in a minimal medium inducing hrp genes. Using a polyclonal antibody against DC3000 EXPs, we have determined that the production and secretion of five EXPs (EXP-60, EXP-45, EXP-43, EXP-22, and EXP-10) are under the control of the Hrp regulation and secretion system.

Pseudomonas syringae pv. pisi comprises a number of races which fall into two phylogenetically distinct groups (designated I and II). Races are based on cultivar specificity in the host plant, pea (Pisum sativum), and are specified by the presence of avirulence genes. The avirulence gene avrPpiA1 is present on the chromosome of all strains examined in race 2, which belongs to phylogenetic group...

Pseudomonas syringae pv. porri, the causative agent of bacterial blight in leek (Allium porrum), is increasingly frequent causing problems in leek cultivation. Because of the current lack of control measures, novel bacteriophages were isolated to control this pathogen using phage therapy. Five novel phages were isolated from infected fields in Flanders (vB_PsyM_KIL1, vB_PsyM_KIL2, vB_PsyM_KIL3,...

Two cysteine proteinase genes of the papain family, NbCYP1 and NbCYP2, were amplified from cDNA of Nicotiana benthamiana leaves infected with the hemibiotrophic fungus Colletotrichum destructivum. Both genes showed peak expression corresponding with the switch from biotrophic to necrotrophic growth by C. destructivum at 72 h post-inoculation (HPI). For N. benthamiana inoculated with the incompa...

Copper-resistant strains of Pseudomonas syringae carrying the cop operon produce periplasmic copper-binding proteins, and this sequestration outside the cytoplasm has been proposed as a resistance mechanism. In this study, strain PS61 of P. syringae carrying the cloned cop operon accumulated more total cellular copper than without the operon. Several other copper-resistant pseudomonads with hom...

In the phaseolotoxin biosynthetic gene cluster of Pseudomonas syringae pv. phaseolicola 1448A, the PSPPH_4299 gene encodes a novel L-amino acid ligase. The PSPPH_4299 protein synthesized various hetero-dipeptides containing basic amino acids in an ATP-dependent manner, and also synthesized alanyl-homoarginine, part of the phaseolotoxin scaffold.

The role of flagellin glycosylation on motility was investigated in Pseudomonas syringae pv. tabaci. The swimming activity of glycosylation-defective mutants was prominently decreased in a highly viscous medium. The mutants showed differences in polymorphic transitions and in the bundle formation of flagella, indicating that glycosylation stabilizes the filament structure and lubricates the rot...

Erwinia amylovora was shown to secrete DspE, a pathogenicity factor of 198 kDa and a functional homolog of AvrE of Pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato. DspE was identified among the supernatant proteins isolated from cultures grown in an hrp gene-inducing minimal medium by immunodetection with a DspE-specific antiserum. Secretion required an intact Hrp pathway.
