Recent studies have addressed the prevalence and prognostic impact of thrombocytosis in various gynecologic and non-gynecologic malignancies. Thrombocytosis appears to be of prognostic value in certain patients with gynecologic malignancies. In this survey we review the published data and attempt to analyze the prognostic implications of thrombocytosis in patients with gynecologic malignancies.
Plenty of studies have confirmed the prognostic values of inflammation-based prognostic scores in many malignant tumors. In present study, we aim to explore whether these indexes has same prognostic values in patients with stage T1N0 esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). The clinicopathological data of 160 consecutive patients with pathological stage T1N0 ESCC from January 2005 to December...
Molecular prostate cancer subtypes have been proposed on the basis of mutually exclusive SPINK1 and ERG overexpression, with conflicting reports on their prognostic ability. Flavin and colleagues report that SPINK1 is neither prognostic nor absolutely mutually exclusive with ERG, raising important questions about prostate cancer molecular subtyping and prognostic biomarker evaluation.
Prognostic factor research aims to identify factors associated with subsequent clinical outcome in people with a particular disease or health condition. In this article, the second in the PROGRESS series, the authors discuss the role of prognostic factors in current clinical practice, randomised trials, and developing new interventions, and explain why and how prognostic factor research should ...
A prognostic factor is any measure that is associated with the risk of future health outcomes in those with existing disease. Often, the prognostic ability of a factor is evaluated in multiple studies. However, meta-analysis is difficult because primary studies often use different methods of measurement and/or different cut-points to dichotomise continuous factors into 'high' and 'low' groups; ...
Treatment use in prognostic model research: a systematic review of cardiovascular prognostic studies
Background: Ignoring treatments in prognostic model development or validation can affect the accuracy and transportability of models. We aim to quantify the extent to which the effects of treatment have been addressed in existing prognostic model research and provide recommendations for the handling and reporting of treatment use in future studies. Methods: We first describe how and when the us...
