Increased economic power has positioned China within the global elite, yet China’s legitimacy remains low with regard to hierarchies of taste. Drawing from Bourdieu and Elias, the paper offers an account of the global dynamics of status contests, and the role played by cultural capital and notions of civility and vulgarity. Specifically, we examine how U.S., UK and Chinese media represent Chine...
To assess the utility of a single stain for both mast cell count and bacillary index (BI), 50 skin-biopsie patients were stained with Fite-Faraco (FF) stain, viewed under oil immersion and BI calculated using the Ridley's logarithmic scale, and mast cells counted as the number of cells per mm2. Mean mast cell count per mm2 at the tuberculoid pole was lowest in TT 7.9 and highest in BT 14.23. At...
Introduction: Tracking temporal changes of temperature during laser skin treatment plays an important role in improving the process of laser skin treatment itself. There are a number of methods to analyze temperature's temporal dependency during laser skin treatment; some of those methods depend on imaging the skin with thermal cameras. However, the use of thermal cameras exhibits specific prob...
The earliest studies on the laser treatment of vascular disorders were on port wine stains (PWS) and published in the 1970s using both the argon and ruby lasers (Table 2.1). Most work was undertaken with the argon laser. In the 1980s this was the most frequently used laser worldwide for the treatment of PWS. The argon laser emits light at six different wavelengths in the blue green portion of t...
Phacomatosis Pigmentovascularis is a rare syndrome characterized by capillary malformation and pigmentary nevus. A case of a 2-year-old patient is reported, who presented extensive nevus flammeus and an aberrant Mongolian spot, without systemic disease, manifestations that allow us to classify this case as type IIa Phacomatosis Pigmentovascularis, according to Hasegawa's classification.
Evaluation of the total antioxidant capacity of solid matrices without extraction steps is a very interesting alternative for food researchers and also for food industries. These methodologies have been denominated QUENCHER from QUick, Easy, New, CHEap, and Reproducible assays. To demonstrate and highlight the validity of QUENCHER (Q) methods, values of Q-method validation were showed for the f...
Port-Hamiltonian systems result from port-based network modeling of physical systems and are an important example of passive state-space systems. In this paper, we develop the framework for model reduction of large-scale multi-input/multioutput port-Hamiltonian systems via tangential rational interpolation. The resulting reduced-order model not only is a rational tangential interpolant but also...
Headspace solid-phase microextraction (SPME) is a fast and simple sampling method for analysis of volatile compounds, but quantitation can be affected by sample matrix and sampling conditions. Sampling time and temperature are particularly important in controlling analyte response, and the effects vary for different compound classes and volatilities. Tests with model solutions containing a rang...
The purpose of this paper is to research the role of the Data Classification (DC) and Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) processes in Port Community Systems (PCS). Issues that are likely to be encountered in the implementation of such systems are defined by the complexity of the PCS stakeholders’ own ICT and organizational systems and are therefore clearly outlined. Furthermore, several dat...
Port site metastasis after adrenal surgery is a rare entity. We describe the case of a 70-year-old man with a solitary adrenal metastasis from malignant melanoma, which was laparoscopically removed. Twelve months later, he presented a recurrence near one of the laparoscopic port sites. This lesion was surgically removed and after a 18-month follow-up, the patient presents no evidence of disease.
