In 1988, Worsey and Piper constructed a trivariate macro-element based on C1 quadratic splines defined over a split of a tetrahedron into 24 subtetrahedra. However, this local element can only be used to construct a corresponding macro-element spline space over tetrahedral partitions that satisfy some very restrictive geometric constraints. We show that by further refining their split, it is po...

A new megastigmane glycoside, called pipeloside A, and a new aromadendrane type sesquiterpenoid, pipelol A, were isolated from the MeOH extract of the aerial part of Piper elongatum VAHL. along with a known megastigmane glycoside, byzantionoside B. The structures of these compounds were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic data and chemical evidence.

The potential effect of invasive plant species on biodiversity is one of most important subject of inquiry at present. In many parts of the world, the alarming spread of these plants has been documented. Knowing that climate exerts a dominant control over the distribution of plant species, predictions can therefore be made to determine which areas the species would likely spread under a climate...

Phytochemical investigations of Piper sarmentosum Roxb., yielded four compounds; three amides, identified as 3-(3’,4’,5’-trimethoxyphenylpropanoyl) pyrrolidine, 3-(4’-methoxyphenylpropanoyl) pyrrole, N -(3-phenylpropanoyl) pyrrole and a sterol namely β -sitosterol . 3-(4’-Methoxyphenylpropanoyl) pyrrole was found for the first time in this Piper spe...

Piper is a large genus in the Piperaceae family, with subgenus Ottonia having about 30 species distributed Neotropics, most of which occur Brazil (26 species). characterized by flower densely papillate, pedicellate or sessile, four stigmas, stamens and 4-ribbed fruits persistent stigmas. The recent global studies propose that all should be considered Piper. Beacause doesn’t have revisionary stu...

Crude extracts of kava (Piper methysticum G. Forster, Piperaceae) showed good activity against ovarian tumour and leukaemia cancer cell lines. Bioassay-guided isolation resulted in the isolation of six known kava lactones and two flavokavains. The structure of the compounds were elucidated by spectroscopic techniques and by comparison with data in the literature.

Two new sphingolipids, pipercerebrosides A (1) and B (2), were isolated from the leaves of Piper betle L. Their structures, including absolute configurations, were determined by spectroscopic analysis and chemical degradation. These two compounds did not show significant cytotoxic activity against the cancer cell lines K562 and HL-60 in a MTT assay.

Effects of depetiolation on protein metabolism during senescence of detached betel (Piper betle L.) leaves have been studied. In normal petiolated leaves, the level of chlorophyll and proteins and extent of protein synthesis declined, while the protease activity registered manifold increase with the advancement of senescence. All of these changes were delayed by depetiolation/de-midribbing trea...
