We discuss a simple beam interference approximation method for deriving the angular selectivity of diffraction in weakly modulated volume holographic gratings. The results obtained using the multiple beam interference model agree qualitatively with the results obtained from a physical optics treatment of the coupled-wave theory for volume holographic gratings. © 2009 American Association of Phy...
The paper presents a new theory of unfolding of eigenvalue surfaces of real symmetric and Hermitian matrices due to an arbitrary complex perturbation near a diabolic point. General asymptotic formulae describing deformations of a conical surface for different kinds of perturbing matrices are derived. As a physical application, singularities of the surfaces of refractive indices in crystal optic...

The diffraction theory of Kirchhoff is applied to the semi-infinite aperture of a black half-screen. The derivative of the spherical Green's function is taken into account without any approximation. The uniformly evaluated scattering integral is compared with the physical optics solution. It is shown that the non-omitted term causes the existence of fictitious diffracted waves.
In this work we study the Sobolev spaces generated by pseudo-differential operators associated with the group of symmetry of general first order hyperbolic systems. In these spaces we establish pointwise estimates of the solutions of a class of first order systems having convex eigenvalues. Various physical models belong to this class. For example, we consider crystal optics systems and anisotr...
The theorem of equivalence between the Kirchhoff aperture integration (AI) and the physical-optics (PO) approach applied to the interior walls of a open-ended waveguide [1] is generalized in this letter to the case of any open-ended structure (OES).
