Structure of mean pulsar radiation patterns is discussed within the nested-cones and patchy beam models. Observational predictions of both these models are analyzed and compared with available data on pulsar waveforms. It is argued that observational properties of pulsar waveforms are highly consistent with the nestedcone model and, in general, inconsistent with the patchy beam model.

The Mishu garnitoidic complex is cropped out in NW of Mishu mountains, in southwest of Marand, northwest Iran (East Azarbaidjan) which is intruded into Kahar Formation. Based on petrographic studies, this pluton is composed of intermediate rocks including granodiorite, quartzmonzodiorite and diorite. Plutonic rocks are mainly composed of quartz, plagioclase, orthoclase, biotite, amphibole and p...

The contribution of forest generalists and specialists to the dispersal pattern of tree species is not well understood. Specialists are considered low-quality dispersers because their dispersal distance is often short. However, disregard for seed deposition site may result in underestimation of the dispersal quality of specialists. The present study estimated the contribution of generalist and ...

Identifying the presence and magnitude of population genetic structure remains a major consideration in evolutionary biology as doing so allows one to understand the demographic history of a species as well as make predictions of how the evolutionary process will proceed. Next-generation sequencing methods allow us to reconsider previous ideas and conclusions concerning the distribution of gene...

OBJECTIVE To describe the HRCT findings of cytomegalovirus (CMV) pneumonia in non-AIDS immunocompromised patients MATERIALS AND METHODS This retrospective study involved the ten all non-AIDS immunocompromised patients with biopsy-proven CMV pneumonia and without other pulmonary infection encountered at our Medical Center between January 1997 and May 1999. HRCT scans were retrospectively analy...

Reduction of hydraulic conductance to the canopy has been shown to result in stomatal responses to limit transpiration. To test for similar responses to perturbations of the hydraulic network in leaves, we simultaneously measured leaf gas exchange with spatially explicit chlorophyll-a fluorescence and leaf temperature to examine the effects of cutting a primary leaf vein in Helianthus annuus. W...

A 22-year-old woman presented to our Department complaining of linear hypopigmented lesions on the trunk and extremities as well as mild patchy hypotrichosis on the occipital area since infancy. Her medical history was significant for congenital dental abnormalities (hypodontiawith conical-shaped teeth) thathadbeen treated with orthodontic management and dental implants (Fig. 1). No consanguini...

Understanding strategies used by animals to explore their landscape is essential to predict how they exploit patchy resources, and consequently how they are likely to respond to changes in resource distribution. Social bees provide a good model for this and, whilst there are published descriptions of their behaviour on initial learning flights close to the colony, it is still unclear how bees f...

AIM To compare the sensitivity and staining pattern of the new immunohistochemical antibody to tyrosinase (T311) with S-100, HMB45, and the recently evaluated antibody to melan-A (A103) in a range of melanocytic lesions. METHOD Archival, formalin fixed, paraffin wax embedded sections from 50 benign and malignant melanocytic lesions were stained immunohistochemically with anti-tyrosinase, A103...
