Alterations of TWIST-1 expression are often seen in solid tumors and contribute to tumorigenesis and cancer progression. However, studies concerning its pathogenic role in leukemia are scarce. Our study shows that TWIST-1 is overexpressed in bone marrow mononuclear cells of patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). Gain-of-function and loss-of-function analy...

BACKGROUND Twist is a basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) transcriptional factor that has been identified to play an important role in epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT)-mediated metastasis through the regulation of E-cadherin expression. However, few authors have examined the expression of Twist and E-cadherin and their prognostic value in patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC)...

We study twist-three effects in deeply virtual Compton scattering on an unpolarized spin-1/2 target. A careful definition of observables as Fourier moments w.r.t. the azimuthal angle allows for a clear separation of twist-two and-three effects. Although the latter are power suppressed, they give leading contributions to the twist-three asymmetries and do not affect the twist-two observables.

We sought to characterize the alterations of left ventricular (LV) twist after acute myocardial infarction in humans and to study their relationship to usual parameters of LV function. Systolic LV twist was measured by color tissue Doppler echocardiography (TDE) in 34 patients after anterior myocardial infarction and in 20 controls. In a subset of controls and patients, the assessment of LV twi...

A novel fiber-optic twist sensor based on a dual-polarization distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) fiber grating laser is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. By beating the signal between the two polarizations of the laser which operates at 1543.154 nm, a signal of 30.78 MHz in frequency domain is observed. The twist will change the fiber birefringence, and resulting in the beat frequency va...

A passive haemagglutination test, using sheep red blood cells sensitised with Salmonella typhi lipopolysaccharide, was compared with the Widal test for the serological diagnosis of typhoid fever in an endemic area. The results obtained on sera from 152 patients with bacteriologically confirmed typhoid and 183 patients who did not have typhoid were analysed in terms of sensitivity, specificity, ...

Abstract Aircraft wings with passive load alleviation morph their shape to a configuration where the aerodynamic forces are reduced without use of an actuator. In our research, we exploit geometric nonlinearities inner wing structure maximize alleviation. order find designs desired properties, propose topology optimization approach. Passive is achieved through bending–torsion coupling. The twis...

AIMS left ventricular (LV) twist is the result of clockwise rotation of the base and counterclockwise rotation of the apex. The aims of this study were to investigate the feasibility of the three-dimensional speckle-tracking echocardiography (3DSTE) to assess LV twist values and compare the data measured by two-dimensional speckle-tracking echocardiography (2DSTE) in a group of healthy voluntee...

Epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) facilitates tumor metastasis. Twist is a basic helix-loop-helix protein that modulates many target genes through E-box-responsive elements. There are two twist-like proteins, Twist-1 and Twist-2, sharing high structural homology in mammals. Twist-1 was found to be a key factor in the promotion of metastasis of cancer cells, and is known to induce EMT. ...
