Here, we tested the hypothesis that animals with severe pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) display increased sensitivity to vascular permeability induced by activation of store-operated calcium entry. To test this hypothesis, wild-type and transient receptor potential channel 4 (TRPC4) knockout Fischer 344 rats were given a single injection of Semaxanib (SU5416; 20 mg/kg) followed by 3 wk of...

In the present paper, a series of totally novel bio-nanocomposite films from cellulose laurate (CL) and starch nanocrystals acetate (SNA) were fabricated, and the properties of nanocomposite films were investigated in detail. SNA was obtained by modifying starch nanocrystals (SNs) produced by sulfuric acid hydrolysis of corn starch with acetic anhydride. The favorable dispersity of SNA in chlor...

ACCORDING to the hypothesis advanced by L0vtrup (1958) the supply of oxygen is one of the factors responsible for the determination of bilateral symmetry in amphibian embryos. The protein coat covering the outside of the egg is known to have a very low permeability (Holtfreter, 1943), and it was suggested in the hypothesis that the formation of the grey crescent consists in a stretching of this...

Reperfusion of ischemic myocardium is required for tissue survival; however, reperfusion elicits pathologic consequences. Myocardial reperfusion injury is a multifarious process that is mediated in part by oxygen free radicals, neutrophil-endothelium interactions, apoptosis, and intracellular calcium overload. The oxygen paradox describes the contradictory need to delivery oxygen to ischemic ti...

Polyurethane nanocomposites with high content of red NIR luminescent transition metal clusters are presented. The gas permeability of the hybrid material is controlled by adjusting the hard/soft segment ratio of the organic matrix structure leading to a drastic and reversible enhancement of cluster luminescence depending on the molecular oxygen concentration in its surrounding atmosphere.

this study demonstrates the changes in six different pathophysiological parameters such as body weight, body temperature, fecal pellet count, blood-brain barrier (bbb) permeability, plasma corticosterone level and emergence of hemorrhagic peptic ulcer spots due to exposure to high environmental heat in three different age groups of freely moving rats. methods: each age group of rats was sub div...

The aim of thrombolysis, angioplasty, and coronary artery bypass surgery is to "reperfuse" ischemic myocardium; however, reperfusion can cause further cardiac damage and compromise the coronary microcirculation. Because nutrient supply and exchange and delivery of pharmacologic agents require a patent microvasculature, the coronary microcirculation plays a major role in myocardial recovery from...

Impermeable base layers that are made of materials with low permeability, such as clay soil, necessary to prevent leachate in landfills from harming the environment. However, over time, permeability soil changes. Therefore, reduce and minimize risk, permeability-related characteristics must be improved. Thus, this study aims serve purpose by experimentally investigating effects nanomaterial add...

This paper presents an experimental study on the properties and durability of concrete containing ceramic wastes. Several mixes possessing a target mean compressive strength 30 MPa were prepared with 20% cement replacement by powder (W/B = 0.6). A mix sand granite aggregates also as well natural coarse (W/B = 0.5). The mechanical performance waste based are assessed means tests, water performan...

Bio-effects mediated by non-ionizing electromagnetic fields (EMF) have become a hot topic of research in the last decades. This interest has been triggered by a growing public concern about the rapid expansion of telecommunication devices and possible consequences of their use on human health. Despite a feasibility study of potential negative impacts, the therapeutic advantages of EMF could be ...
