Roots of taro (Colocasia esculenta [L.] Schott cvs Bun-long and Lehua maoli) exuded increasing concentrations of oxalate with increasing Al stress. This exudation was a specific response to excess Al and not to P deficiency. Addition of oxalate to Al-containing solutions ameliorated the toxic effect of Al.

The Th(iv) mixed-sandwich halide complexes Th(COT(TIPS2))Cp*X (where COT(TIPS2) = 1,4-{Si(i)Pr(3)}(2)C(8)H(6), X = Cl, I) have been synthesised, and structurally characterised. When Th(COT(TIPS2))Cp*I is reduced in situ in the presence of CO(2), a mixture of dimeric carboxylate and oxalate complexes {Th(COT(TIPS2))Cp*}(2)(μ-κ(1):κ(2)-CO(3)) and {Th(COT(TIPS2))Cp*}(2)(μ-κ(2):κ(2)-C(2)O(4)) are f...

Oxalosis is the histological manifestation of a number of diverse clinicopathological states involving abnormalities of both endogenous and exogenous oxalate. Crystalline deposits of calcium oxalate, usually first detected by their birefringence, may be characterised by a combination of their physical and tinctorial properties.

The methods used for determination of oxalate in blood are reviewed, and the advantages and disadvantages of the two basic approaches--direct methods and in vivo isotope-dilution techniques--are compared. Possible reasons for the previous discrepancies between direct and isotopic methods are discussed, as are the effects of protein binding, sample handling, and storage conditions on oxalate val...

Evidence is presented that the colorimetric chloranilate calcium method can be accurately applied to urine provided that elimination of interfering substances, which include magnesium, is performed prior to the determination. Isolation of calcium as the oxalate, followed by perchioric acid digestion, has been shown to be an acceptable method whereby urinary calcium can be put in a suitable stat...

The title compound, (C(14)H(16)N)[Sn(C(6)H(5))(3)(C(2)O(2))], was synthesised by allowing C(2)O(4)(Bz(2)NH(2))(2) (Bz = benzyl) to react with SnPh(3)Cl. The asymmetric unit is built up by four SnPh(3)C(2)O(4) anions and four Bz(2)NH(2) cations which are related by a pseudo-inversion centre. Each Sn(IV) cation is five-coordinated by the three phenyl groups and two O atoms belonging to the chelat...
