In this paper, a novel pneumatic cylinder is proposed, named Magnetic Brake Cylinder. It is composed of a tank, a pneumatic cylinder, and a permanent magnet, and with this, the piston is held by the attractive force of the magnet until the pressure inside the tank is very high, offering a higher driving power than an ordinary cylinder when using the same pressure source. In addition, a control ...

The current case report describes a case of Intraoperative progressive hemodynamic failure in a patient undergoing orthotropic liver transplantation. Rescue transesophageal echocardiography was used to facilitate rapid diagnosis of a iatrogenic acute pericardial tamponade, resulting from a suture penetrating the pericardium through the right hemi diaphragm. This potentially lethal complication ...

To overcome current limitations of valve substitutes and tissue substitutes the technology of tissue engineering (TE) continues to offer new perspectives in congenital cardiac surgery. We report our experiences and results implanting a decellularized TE patch in nine sheep in orthotropic position as aortic valve leaflet substitute. Establishing the animal model, feasibility, cardiopulmonary byp...

The Hadamard and SJT product of matrices are two types of special matrix product. The latter was first defined by Chen [1]. In this study, they are applied to the differential quadrature (DQ) solution of geometrically nonlinear bending of isotropic and orthotropic rectangular plates. By using the Hadamard product, the nonlinear formulations are greatly simplified, while the SJT product approach...

Safety analysis has been done for the torsion of a functionally graded thick-walled  circular cylinder under internal and external pressure subjected to thermal loading. In order to determine stresses the concept of Seth’s transition theory based on generalized principal strain measure has been used. This theory simplifies the set of mechanical equations by mentioning the order of the measure of...

Every linear planar anisotropic elastic material is equivalent, under a linear change of coordinates, to an orthotropic material. Consequently, up to linear changes of variables, there are just two "canonical" planar elastic moduli which determine the properties of any linearly elastic material. Extensions to three-dimensional elasticity and applications are indicated.

In this paper, we establish some quantity relationships between the dynamics of circular cylinder wakes and the rotation speed of the cylinder. It has been shown analytically that rotating the cylinder can regularize the flow behavior, and delay the transition from steady flow to turbulent flow. The work needed to overcome the drag exerted on the cylinder is provided.

Structural optimization using gradient-based methods is a powerful design technique that is well suited for the design of high-performance structures. However, the ever-increasing complexity of finite-element models and design formulations results in a bottleneck in the computation of the gradients required for the design optimization. Furthermore, in light of current high-performance computing...

In this paper we develop a new constitutive law for the description of the (passive) mechanical response of arterial tissue. The artery is modeled as a thick-walled nonlinearly elastic circular cylindrical tube consisting of two layers corresponding to the media and adventitia (the solid mechanically relevant layers in healthy tissue). Each layer is treated as a fiber-reinforced material with t...

This paper presents an analytical solution for an orthotropic circular cross section bar with a magnetic coating weakened by multiple arbitrary oriented cracks under Saint-Venant torsion by means of the distributed dislocation technique. At first, the solution of the orthotropic bar with a magnetic coating weakened by a Volterra-type screw dislocation is achieved with the aid of the finite Four...
