The substitution of ligands in octahedral metal complexes is the most extensively mechanistically studied inorganic reaction. It is of fundamental importance, and a number of important observations and results are found. Substitution in octahedral systems was initially studied for classical coordination complexes in aqueous solutions. More recently some important observations have been made reg...

A series of highly unsymmetric heterobinuclear Mn/Co complexes is reported, in which an organometallic CpMn(CO)z fragment and a classical Werner-type cobalt(II) subunit are arranged in close proximity by means of a bridging pyrazolate. Two ligand scaffolds are employed that differ by the chelate size of the tripodal tetradentate {N41 binding site for cobalt. Molecular structures of three comple...

The first ferrocene-fused organometallic compounds derived from the buckybowl sumanene (C21H12) are presented. Both compounds, sumanenylferrocene and 1,1'-disumanenylferrocene, have been synthesized by Negishi-type cross-coupling of iodosumanene and were studied crystallographically. Sumanenylferrocenes form unique packing motifs, which are both different from those of their corannulene congene...

In this Review we describe how the advent of machines is impacting on organic synthesis programs, with particular emphasis on the practical issues associated with the design of chemical reactors. In the rapidly changing, multivariant environment of the research laboratory, equipment needs to be modular to accommodate high and low temperatures and pressures, enzymes, multiphase systems, slurries...

Surface Organo-Metallic Chemistry on Metals (SOMC/M) [1] provides access to a new type of materials. The strategy is to create catalytically active sites which are homogeneously dispersed and uniform in their structure by grafting organometallic precursors on well defined metallic surfaces. For example, tetrabutyltin reacts with the surface of metallic particles supported on silica leading to f...

A recent suggestion, that transition metal complexes of unsaturated ligands can be regarded as cruciconjugated, is explored by studies of various complexes of Fe(II), the aromaticity of the resulting i systems being analyzed in terms of PMO theory. This approach is also applied to porphyrin. The conclusions are supported by preliminary SCF and MNDO calculations.

The analysis of organometallic compounds with mass spectrometry has some special features in comparison with organic and bioorganic compounds. The first step is the choice of a suitable ionization technique, where the electrospray ionization is certainly the best possibility for most classes of organometallic compounds and metal complexes. Some ionization mechanisms of organometallic compounds ...

A general method for synthesis of supported metal complexes having a high degree of uniformity is presented, whereby organometallic precursors incorporating acetylacetonate (C(5)H(7)O(2)(-), acac) ligands react with zeolites incorporating OH groups near Al sites. The method is illustrated by the reactions of Rh(acac)(CO)(2) and of cis-Ru(acac)(2)(eta(2)-C(2)H(4))(2) with zeolites slurried in n-...
