The primary purpose of this study was to determine the optimal release conditions and corresponding arm movement pattern for the free throw for players classified as 3 to 4.5 on the international player classification system in wheelchair basketball. A 2-D, three-segment simulation model was used to investigate this problem. The computational process involved a two-step optimization scheme in w...

This paper presents an analytical modeling method of optimal control variables to maximize output power for switched reluctance generators (SRGs) in single pulse mode operation. This method extends the basic theory of the Stiebler model and utilizes the flux linkage function to express the inductance model of SRG. In this paper, the optimal phase current shape of SRG for maximum output power is...

In this paper, new scheme of direct torque control of induction motor for electric vehicles is proposed and the results of an investigation into suitable torque control schemes are also presented. The electric vehicle drive consists of rewound induction motors and a three-level IGBT inverter. The schemes investigated are Field Oriented Control, Direct Torque Control (DTC), and DTC using Space V...

The problem of fuel-optimal attitude maneuvering of a space vehicle (SV) with non-fixed time is considered. The state constraint related to the maintenance of artificial gravitation is imposed. This problem is especially important for long-time space missions. The attitude of the space vehicle is controlled by means of a pair of reactive engines which produce a single control torque with fixed ...

Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) has potential applications in electric drives. The excellent characteristics of PSO may be successfully used to optimize the performance of electric machines in many aspects. In this chapter, a field-oriented controller that is based on Particle Swarm Optimization is presented. In this system, the speed control of two asymmetrical windings induction motor is ac...

In the present work, an integrated method of pole shape design optimization for reduction of torque pulsation components in permanent magnet synchronous motors is developed. A progressive design process is presented to find feasible optimal shapes. This method is applied on the pole shape optimization of two prototype permanent magnet synchronous motors, i.e., 4-poles/6-slots and 4-poles-12slots.

The most distinct advantage of electric vehicle is in its quick and precise torque generation. We propose two novel traction control techniques of electric vehicle, i.e., the model following control and the optimal slip ratio control. Their effectiveness is demonstrated by using the test vehicle "UOT Electric March".

In this paper, we analyze and demonstrate a novel rotational energy harvesting generator using gravitational torque. The electro-mechanical behavior of the generator is presented, alongside experimental results from an implementation based on a conventional DC motor. The off-axis performance is also modeled. Designs for adaptive power processing circuitry for optimal power harvesting are presen...

This paper studies time-optimal control questions for a certain class of nonlinear systems. This class includes a large number of mechanical systems, in particular, rigid robotic manipulators with torque constraints. As nonlinear systems, these systems have many properties that are false for generic systems of the same dimensions.
