For the 14 months 1 January 1985 to 28 February 1986 all cases of chemical eye injury presenting to the Croydon Eye Unit were analysed. Of the 180 cases 19 were caused by assaults and 14 were admitted for treatment. The wide range of injurious substances is emphasised, and the circumstances of injury are listed.
