Iliac Vein Injury Due to a Damaged Hot Shears™ Tip Cover During Robot Assisted Radical Prostatectomy
We report a rare case of vascular injury secondary to a damaged Hot Shears™ tip cover. Two 1 mm holes in the tip cover resulted in perforations in the obturator and external iliac veins during pelvic node dissection. Bleeding was controlled with bipolar coagulation and a 5 mm metal clip in the obturator and iliac vein, respectively. The rest of the procedure was completed uneventfully. Frequent...
We report an 86-year-old women with an obturator hernia presenting with recurrent right hip pain. Obturator hernia is a diagnostic challenge because the hernial mass is usually concealed beneath the pectineus. It should be suspected in emaciated, multiparous, elderly women presenting with unexplained pain in the groin, hip, thigh, or knee. High levels of clinical suspicion of the high-risk pati...
A 20-year-old man sustained an overlapping dislocation of the pubic symphysis following a low velocity side-to-side compression injury. Such injuries are rare in the literature. This case, where the pubis was locked into the obturator foramen, may be the first of its kind to be reported. The pubic symphysis was successfully reduced by levering, with difficulty, the locked pubic body out of the ...
Prior pure hip dislocation in its obturator variety is exceptional. It still reflects a high-energy trauma and may compromise the functional prognosis of the hip secondary necrosis of the femoral head. It is reported the case of a patient who, following an accident on the highway, presented a pure anterior obturator hip dislocation. The dislocation was reduced under general anaesthesia in an em...
Malignant tumours of nasal cavity and para nasal sinuses have a low incidence rate. Management of maxillary malignancies and/or surrounding structures necessitates the removal of partial or total maxilla, leaving the patient with a defect that compromises the function and integrity of the oral cavity. Stomatologic rehabilitation via palatal obturator is preferred in patients with poor prognosis...
Tissue-integrated oral implants have opened-up a new perspective in oral rehabilitation of tumour patients who had undergone surgery. The present case demonstrated a simple approach to rehabilitate a patient who had subtotal maxillectomy using dental implant. The use of an implant in combination with a natural abutment tooth was shown to improve the retention and stability of the obturator. Mag...
