Ice easily recrystallizes during warming after vitrification, and antifreeze protein (AFP) can inhibit the re-crystallization. However, no study has evaluated the effect of AFP treatment only thereon during warming. This study sought to compare AFP treatment protocols: a conventional protocol with AFP treatment during vitrification and first-step warming and a new protocol with AFP treatment du...

In the 1950’s, dream researchers commonly thought that dreams were predominantly a black-and-white phenomenon, although both earlier and later treatments of dreaming presume or assert that dreams have color. The first half of the twentieth century saw the rise of black-and-white film media, and it is likely that the emergence of the view that dreams are black-and-white was connected with this c...

We study the emergence of multiband superconductivity with s- and d-wave symmetry on the background of a spin density wave (SDW). We show that the SDW coherence factors renormalize the momentum dependence of the superconducting (SC) gap, yielding a SC state with an unconventional s-wave symmetry. Interband Cooper pair scattering stabilizes superconductivity in both symmetries. With increasing S...

By adding a proper term to the Lagrangian density of a real non-linear KG system with a proposed non-topological unstable solitary wave solution, its stability guaranteed appreciably. This additional term in the new modified Lagrangian density behaves like a strong internal force which stands against any arbitrary small deformation in the proposed non-topological solitary wave solution.

Based on a cyclic predator-prey model of three species, spiral waves on global level of the system are obtained. It is found that the predation intensity greatly affects on the behaviors of spiral waves. The wavelength of spiral waves alter with the mobility in the form of λ ∼ D. Values of θ are determined by predation rates between species. It indicates the behaviors of spiral waves varying wi...

Reaction-diffusion computing utilises the complex auto-catalytic and diffusive interactions underlying self-organising systems for practical computing tasks – developing variants of classical logical computing devices, or direct spatial embodiments of problem representations and solutions. We investigate the concept of passive and active approaches to reaction-diffusion computing. Passive appro...

The only structure is provided by the selection of a specific point in time as the focus of the research. The narration has to emerge from it. A very general indication for the oral histories you will have to collect can be starting from 1984, the year of famine, which also saw the first massive involvement of the international community in Darfur. You can than move to the change in regime of 1...

We study the time-dependent scattering of a quantum mechanical wave packet at a barrier for energies larger than the barrier height, in the semi-classical regime. More precisely, we are interested in the leading order of the exponentially small scattered part of the wave packet in the semiclassical parameter when the energy density of the incident wave is sharply peaked around some value. We pr...
