Solar-to-hydrogen photoelectrochemical cells (PECs) have been proposed as a means of converting sunlight into H2 fuel. However, in traditional PECs, the oxygen evolution reaction and the hydrogen evolution reaction are coupled, and so the rate of both of these is limited by the photocurrents that can be generated from the solar flux. This in turn leads to slow rates of gas evolution that favor ...

A microfluidic platform is developed for the synthesis of monodisperse, 100 nm, chitosan based nanoparticles using nanogelation with ATP. The resulting nanoparticles tuned and enhanced transport and electrochemical properties of Nafion based nanocomposite membranes, which is highly favorable for fuel cell applications.

In this study, we synthesized an organic electrochemical transistor (OECT) using dielectrophoresis of a carbon nanotube-Nafion (CNT-Nafion) suspension. Dielectrophoretically aligned nanowires formed a one-dimensional submicron bundle between triangular electrodes. The CNT-Nafion composite nanowire bundles showed p-type semiconductor characteristics. The drain-source current decreased with incre...

Based on a previously developed polyamide proton conductive macromolecule, the nano-scale structure of the self-assembled proton conductive channels (PCCs) is adjusted via enlarging the nano-scale pore size within the macromolecules. Hyperbranched polyamide macromolecules with different size are synthesized from different monomers to tune the nano-scale pore size within the macromolecules, and ...

The Nafion is a commonly used polyelectrolyte membrane (PEM) in fuel cells and flow batteries. Nanocomposites of are to enhance temperature resistance proton conductivity. molecular-dynamics simulation results reported for films different thicknesses confined between two potential walls variable wettability, mimicking the nanofiller surfaces. water cluster sizes show an increase with film thick...

Performance of low temperature fuel cells depends critically on the nanostructures of the material components in the electrodes and membranes. Some studies are reported here for 1) mixed metal nanoparticles supported on mesoporous carbon and 2) modification of nanopores of Nafion via in-situ polymerization of furfuryl alcohol. The anodic oxidation of small organic molecules such as alcohols in ...

The influence of the as-grown zinc oxide nanorods (ZnO NRs) on the fabricated electrochemical sensor for in vitro glucose monitoring were investigated. A direct growth of ZnO NRs was performed on the Si/SiO2/Au electrode, using hydrothermal and sol-gel techniques at low temperatures. The structure, consisting of a Si/SiO2/Au/GOx/Nafion membrane, was considered as a baseline, and it was tested u...

A series of radiation-grafted alkaline anion-exchange membranes (AAEMs) with degrees of grafting (by mass) in the range 20 – 26% were produced and characterised. Conductivities (from impedance spectroscopy) up to 0.023 ± 0.001 S cm at 50 ± 1°C were demonstrated, which are between 20 – 50% of values for the commercial acidform membrane Nafion-115 (σ = 0.045 ± 0.004 (65°C) – 0.104 ± 0.008 (50 ± 1...

A multiscale simulation is presented to study the proton-conducting polyelectrolyte membrane Nafion for a fuel cell. Firstly, the mesoscopic structure of the hydrated Nafion membrane was predicted by dissipative particle dynamics simulation. In this method, a molecular structure is represented using a coarse-grained model, and the interaction parameters are estimated by calculating the energy o...
