Struma ovarii is a rare tumor that is defined as an ovarian teratoma with a thyroid tissue component exceeding 50%. Most of these tumors are benign, with malignant struma ovarii occurring in <1% of patients. Here, we describe the case of a 49-year-old female patient with malignant struma ovarii who developed thoracic spine metastasis. She had undergone an oophorectomy and was diagnosed with str...
Importance. Laryngeal cancer infrequently results in distant metastases, but metastasis to skeletal muscle is extremely uncommon. Observations. A 55-year-old male presenting with progressive dyspnea and hoarseness was found to have Stage IVA T4aN2cM0 laryngeal cancer and eventually underwent total laryngectomy. Before the patient could be started on adjuvant chemoradiation, the patient develope...
Introduction: Leiomyosarcoma is malignant soft tissue tumor of mesenchymal origin arising from undifferentiated smooth muscle cells. Thera are two types scrotum namely para-testicular and intra-testicular. The Intra testicular relatively rare. Blood vessels or contractile cells the seminiferous tubules believed to be this rare which origin. Objective: Prospective clinical evaluation leiomyosarc...
Nerve root metastasis of cancer has been rarely reported. We herein report the case of a cervical cancer patient with metastasis to peripheral nerve roots. A 47 year-old woman with cervical squamous cell carcinoma was admitted to our department with a 6-month history of right leg pain, and was investigated for cancer recurrence. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed lymph node metastasis near the...
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) can regulate tumor cell invasion and metastasis in a tumor-specific manner. We recently demonstrated that global downregulation of miRNAs after deleting dicer can promote development of distant metastases in a mouse model of primary soft tissue sarcoma (STS). In this study, we identified miRNAs that are differentially downregulated in metastatic STS in both human and mouse, a...
Most solid cancers spread to new sites via the lymphatics before hematogenous dissemination. However, only a small fraction of an intravenously administered anti-cancer drug enters the lymphatic system to reach metastatic lymph nodes (LN). Here, we show that the enhanced permeability and retention (EPR) effect is not induced during the early stages of LN metastasis. Luciferase-expressing tumor ...
although acrometastases are rare but clinically they are considered important. their etiology is quite different from the metastases to other sites; bronchogenic carcinoma is by far the most frequent case. the prognosis is always similar to metastatic bronchial cancer with an average survival of three months. treatment may involve distal digital amputation or antalgic radiotherapy. the main dif...
sister mary joseph nodule or sister mary joseph sign refers to a palpable nodule bulging into the umbilicus as a result of metastasis of a malignant cancer in the pelvis or abdomen. a rare case of sister mary joseph nodule, manifesting as ascites, cachexia and bleeding per rectum, is presented without any primary tumor despite extensive search for the same. normal 0 false false false microsofti...
Skeletal muscle metastases following cancer surgery are rare. Few cases of abdominal wall metastasis have been reported in the literature and attributed to tumor seeding after laparoscopic surgery or percutaneous nephrostomy. We report a case of abdominal tumor seeding after open nephroureterectomy managed by means of a surgical and medical approach.
We presented a case of mixed endometrial stromal sarcoma and smooth muscle cell tumor of the uterus with intravenous metastasis into the right heart. 50 hot mutated key genes of solid tumors were detected by next generation sequencing. The literature about the diagnostic and therapeutic strategies of the disease were reviewed.
